Do any of you know of a source for acquiring a .550 bullet mould? I want to try out my .56 Thompson Center smooth-bore, but so far I have had no luck in finding a mould or pre-cast .550 lead ball that I was told was the proper size to fire in my .56. Thanks for the help all!

Most folks like to use balls that are .02 under bore size for smoothies. This makes it much easier to load with the correct size patch. There are no riflings for the patch to go into and they tend to bunch up in a smooth bore. That would mean that a .540 might be your best choice. If you will notice , for instance that most folks use a .600 rondball in a 20 gauge (.62 bore) fowler. This way they can use thick enough of a lubed patch to get a good gas seal.
There are several companies that will make any size mould you want if they don't stock them. Just search around on the Web and you will find some choices.
