would 56/50 go fast enough to kill a deer?

I ask because I really wanted a sharps in 50-90 but the loaca range just became unaffordable so no long range shooting any more I now can get out to only 100 yards. I also want an unusual rifle cartdridge. So with 100 yards being it looks like a 56-50. Also I like the whole .50 thing

I just looked in latest issue of The Cowboy Chronicle (SASS newsletter) a Cowboy Shooter by the alias of Toulomne Lawman, SASS 6127 does a test on several different calibers of the Spencer rifle. In 56-50 he lists a load of 40 grain equivalent 777 FFg under a 350 grain bullet. He doesn't list velocity, but does say it is a stout load, and should be good for deer. I would not want to argue with a 350 grain bullet being pushed by 40 grain/equivalent of 777.

Last night I bought the Feb. Guns and Ammo mag. It also has an article on the Spencer. Tex-X ammo, smokeless powder was 1200+ fps with the 350 grain. The Ten-X BP load was 1000+fps.
