Hello All,

I am the happy owner of a Mossberg 590 setup like the picture below. I really like everything about the setup except for the ghost ring sights. I guess I should have went with a plain ole bead, because I can't seem to get used to the ghost ring.

I found a number of posts on the rear sight removal, couple of screws and its off; but nothing on the front ramp and blade. The blade is an insert that can be drifted out, but I am more interested in removing the ramp altogether and putting a simple bead in place.

Is this possible or am I better off with a different barrel?

I have the same gun. Your better off trying to trade the sights & barrel with someone. You may even get some cash out of the deal or ammo. :)

Used barrel should be quite inexpensive. I fooled around with ole' 16ga Mossy trying to put 12ga tube on the reciever (it worked except little wood had to be honed from the forend). The newer 12ga barrel had Made in Mexico on it where it could not be seen when barrel was on the gun. I would think something Hecho en Mexico would be pretty cheap.

I'd just sell it to the next sucker and buy a plain 500. I assume you also learned the speedfeed stock is mostly useless, I know I did.

Thanks for the responses. Trading for a plain barrell makes the most sense I guess.

As to the speed-feed, no I actually like it. Less rounds than your average side saddle, but I love that its out of the way, and doesn't snag on anything.
