I'm looking at getting a mid priced 6.5 grendel barrel, was looking at 6arc but I'll wait on that.
Thanks to a member from the forum I have most of what I need for a upper, just need the barrel, bcg and maybe a few parts.

I'm thinking a 18"-20" but not to heavy profile. So what are you guys liking. Like to keep it under $ 220 or so.

I want to try the 6arc but there's no brass out yet and there's only a few places that will ship ammo here.plus barrels are sold out. Be a good spring time build tho.

You could always just load 6.5 or 7.62x39 brass. I understand wanting to have the correct headstamp though.

I'm also wanting a 6ARC barrel too, I'm just wanting one for a bolt gun though. Hoping either Howa or Ruger comes out with one in a configuration I like soon-ish.

Ya I don't mind making brass but then defeats the purpose of sammi spec. Plus I want to do a bday build for the 6arc

I'm considering putting mine together around my birthday as well (around Thanksgiving, hopefully there's some Black Friday deals to be had).

My wife wanted to get me a new XBox or Playstation, I told her "While I appreciate it, I can think of more fun things to spend $500+ on."

As I'll be moving out to the southwest from Ohio, a new hunting rifle sounds like just the ticket. Something lightweight and flat shooting for hiking around in the heat going after yotes', Javalina and other desert critters.

A mini action 6ARC sounds like just the ticket. Although a .223 or 6.5G would probably serve plenty well enough, the 6ARC does seem to strike the best balance. If I'm chasing deer or larger, I've already got a 308win and a 30-06.

Ya think I want a heavy long barrel for when I do the 6arc. Hope I can have money around black Friday.

If you’re open to a 16” which shoots about the same speed as an 18”, here’s an option:

I'm pretty sure that one uses a 7.62x39 bolt, not a type II grendel bolt. Nothing wrong with it, just be aware so you don't have a compatibility kaboom.

beyond that, I'm just not sure what a 6mm arc gets you that a grendel won't, other than a higher likelihood of it being an abandoned cartridge. I just don't know that it offers enough difference to make a significant inread in the marketshare. But then, I said the same thing about the 7mm-08 vs the 308 and here we are.

Well I like 6mm, like to make a nice target/ varmint gun and maybe a deer or two. Little it won't be dropped with hornadys backing and if for some reason brass is easy to make.

But for this build is like a shorter lighter 6.5 grendel for deer and some fun.I'll post some pics of the parts I have to build off.

Here's the parts I have to work with. Again big thanks to js8588.
San tan tac sst-15 piller upper receiver.
Diamondhead vrs t 13.5 handguard
Gamma vg6 6.5 muzzle break
have two gas blocks to use. A noveske low pro and a odin works low pro both .750
Two grips to choose from to. Fad defense gradus and Daniel defence grip with trigger guard built in.
have a noveske mid length gas tube.

6 ARC advantages over 6.5 Grendel: ~20 points higher G7, ~200fps faster, ~200yrds longer supersonic boundary, ~5% less recoil, ~10% less powder, same brass, same mags, same bolts...

For me, I shoot a bunch of 6mm cartridges, the ARC uses less powder (and a different powder than the others), so I get more similar trajectory to my other rifles without shifting quite as far away as the Grendel’s trajectory.

What do you think the 6arc barrel life is compared to the 6.5 grendel.i just don't have time this year to do the arc unless brass comes out soon, having a range to use is the main reason. But if I find a arc barrel that would work well with this build and is in stock I'll probably get it.

Objectively less than the 6.5 Grendel, but for me at least, past a “long life boundary.” I shot over 2500 out of my first 243LBC barrel, running more powder and much hotter than could be accomplished in the smaller ARC case. I was still holding velocity, and I only changed barrels because my replacement barrel shipped faster than expected, and I added a little extra weight on this version.

Compared to what I get out of 243win/AI, 6 Dahser, and 6 creed, the ARC lasts “forever.”

I do love the look of those Diamondhead handguards, @troy fairweather
Ya I really like the looks, very comfortable to. Plus not to many holes to have brush catch on it. Think a 18" will look nice.

this will most likely be a fixed mag gun once I get a dedicated lower. Wish I had the money for its matching lower I like the ambidextrous controls. Think there about $230
