With money from taxes coming and considering building an SBR, I have been looking at different options. How practical and how reliable is 6.8 in an (AR platform) SBR?
Thanks,
Maurice

I have ZERO practical experience with SBRing a 6.8SPC. However, given the pressure curve of the round (larger bore than 5.56 causing a faster drop of pressure as you move down the bore/clock) I would expect it to actually work quite well.

BTT, for a hopefully crisper answer from someone who's done it....

I live 15 minutes from Ko-Tonics, an AR builder who does nothing but 6.8 rifles all day. They handle all my transfers, so I chat with the owner every time I'm there. 6.8 was born to be fired from short barrels. It's very close to its peak velocity by 12" or so. A 10" or 12" SBR would be an excellent platform for 6.8.

Awesome, thank you.
The cost of the 5.56 round has gone up dramatically over the last few years, how does the current cost compare to the 6.8 round? Whichever caliber I go with I will ultimately wind up reloading, but in the meantime I don't want to go completely broke trying to feed my rifle a several hundred rounds a month (don't have nearly as much time to shoot as I used to).

I think factory 6.8 is still more expensive than 5.56, being that there is less demand and less production. Once you get into reloading the 6.8 will be slightly more expensive simply due to the increased powder charge and bullet weights.
