The Fedex man just dropped off my 6.8SPC upper. MSTN built this for
me and Wes has been great.

Full index: http://apollo.demigod.org/~zak/DigiCam/6.8mm/

Details: 18" stainless barrel, chambered by PRI. OPSINC 4-port brake
K-G coated black. Handguard is PRI. I believe the upper receiver is
LMT. Bolt is custom machined. Bolt carrier is JP.

I'll get out Saturday to shoot it.

Whoa... I didn't know those were available yet. Didn't even know the ammo was available yet.

Yes, please post a range report when you get a chance. I'd be especially interested to know about how the 6.8 rds do in the 5.56 mags.

From previous reports, normal 5.56 mags do not work well. They get something like 8 rounds max. There is a replacement mag body plan in the works -- just wait.

The ammo I have is pre-production, which I bought as a source for once-fired brass. Because of the prototypical nature of that ammo batch, it is not accurate. Handloads using the 110gr VMAX or 115gr Hornady should be sub MOA easy.

That is just awesome looking, Zak. :)

One of my future projects is to build a 6.8mm SPR. Pretty much exactly what you have. Some day, when I get a ticket out of Cali....

Is the handguard made from carbon fiber? Skunky would be very pleased.

Have you looked at OPS suppressors? They are on the current generation of SPRs. They probably have a 6.8 model in the works, if not production already.

That is the exact suppressor I want (SPR, but in 6.8). Unfortunately, there is a legal problem exporting them from CA to civilians. Troy Industries has a 6.8 can in the works, too, and I think they will be able to sell to civs.

I like the Magpul stock. It's rock solid. From fully collapsed, you just pull and it ratchets out to your preset and is ready to go.

I wish the butt were a little narrower.

To follow up on brouhaha's post here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=184409

Here is a quick range/ammo report:

18" barrel from MSTN. Remington pre-production ammo 115gr.

Today was 55F, altitude is about 5000'.

Average of about 10 shots was 2695fps. Stddev = 31.95fps.

Don't be too alarmed by the slowness. This was a pre-production experimental ammo run by Remington. Handloads with a 115gr bullet can make the 320 PF.

Didn't bother to check accuracy based on known problems with this experimental ammo batch. Burned about 70 rounds into once-fired brass.

The growth off the receiver is the brass catcher from 3GunGear. It works just "ok", but I wouldn't want to depend on it to catch 100% of brass and not jam. It beats searching for every last piece on the ground, though.

Zak - are you using an Aimpoint atop of a Weaver rail (referring to your last pic)... yet another awesome setup. If there was a thumbsup graemlin to post here, I'd click on it.

Are you using your own custom loads for your 6.8? Or are you sticking with the Remingtons?

And is that a "standard" AR15 receiver?

PTC,

I switch between an Aimpoint, a TA11, and a Leupold 4.5-14X M1 depending on the shooting I'm doing.

I am for the most part using my own handloads. The Remington ammo I have is only preproduction, so I'm mostly pulling the bullets the first time around.

The receiver is standard with the exception of enlarged M4 ramp cuts which were cut with the barrel installed.
