My nephew has a Model 600 Remington carbine in .308 Winchester. How do you remove the bolt? Usually there is something on the left side of the bolt shroud that you press that allows the bolt to be removed. It won't even come out if you keep the trigger pressed.

You're welcome, but I may have brain-farted. It is on the left, but it may be between the stock and the receiver. I haven't shot my own model 600 or disassembled it since about 1991 and I may have screwed up that detail. Anyway, it's a little catch on the left that needs a tool to depress it.

you got it right, the catch is on the left, between the bolt body and the receiver wall, basicly a little springloaded steel catch that pops up behind the left locking lug.

I remember b/c a M600 in .308 (my father's) was the first centerfire rifle i ever fired, and it was also the only bolt gun that I personally have cleaned that required a tool to remove the bolt, the little flathead screwdriver/fingernail file on a Victorinox "classic" (the little keychaing sized bugger) works real well.
