I have the 5" 627 PC, one of the earlier models that came with the metal embosses S&W case with combination lock. I added a JPoint base and a Docter reflex sight and it is extremely accurate. I thought I would use it for deer hunting, but I never have. I haven't shot it in several years and I'm wondering if I should sell it and but something different. I like the fact that it's fairly uncommon and pretty cool looking. It's unique, but I never seem to shoot it. I doubt that I'll ever do any handgun hunting.

I wouldn't up and just get rid of the gun. If you happen to find something you want more, then what the hey, but just ditching it cause it seems useless at the moment has lead me at least to more regret than any other course of action. Depending what you do as to home defense, your set up sounds like about the ultimate nightstand gun. Just keep it by the bed for when you need it, and change the battery and ammo once a year. then your gtg for the next few years without worrying about mag springs, or any other wear part for that matter.

Sure sell it. You could use the money and another owner will likely shoot it more.

You are talking roughly $1000.00 dollars and to be quite honest that don't buy much anymore. A lot of the considered "Classic" Smith & Wesson's have asking prices higher than the $1000.00. S&W M13 3", M58, M29's and even some M19's have that or more for an asking price. I would have to find someone with at least 2 Smiths that you do like and trade yours for both or maybe a trade on a really outstanding 1911 or even perhaps an old S&W M41 with the cocking indicator & muzzle brake. U get the idea .......get some "You" want!

The Docter optic does not have a power switch. It has a sensor that operates the power. If you don't cover the sensor with the optic cap, it stays on. Put the cap on it and it turns off. I don't think it would work well for a nightstand gun due to battery drain and I can't be fumbling with the cap in the middle of the night.
