You know, the longer I have my Smith & Wesson 629 Classic, the more I like it. You know what I just noticed tonight? (I can't believe I never noticed before.) The front of the cylinder is beveled. No sharp edges like on my 642 snubby.

Nice trigger, locks up like a bank vault, and accurate as heck too. Plus I like the pinned, interchangable front sight. I think I'm going to replace it with a gold bead, and replace the rear with a Rough Country Adjustable from Bowen.

Maybe send it to a smith for some tuning, and...you know what I think I'd like? I think I'd like the Robar NP3 finish. That gunmetal gray color would look kind of cool on a working gun like this one. Either that or I'm going to have it bead-blasted.

All in all, I continue to be impressed with this gun. :D

If its a serous shooter I would definitely have a good smith work it over. I had Davis Co do a super tune on one for me quite a few years ago. Slickest double action of any N frame I've ever owned. Single action trigger pull broke at a little over 2 pounds and clean as a glass rod. Its a sweet piece.

Having it tuned would not hurt. I like mine a lot too, good shooting accurate handun with a lot of punch.

My "always" gun is a 642 .38 Special. My "sometimes" gun is a 5" barreled 629 Classic. A Kramer scabbard and a 5.11 super-stiff gun belt and it's easy packing (and I'm tall and broad-shouldered enough to effectively conceal it).

My new M29 Bounty Hunter 3" will replace the 629 for most carry, though. Still, for range, field, and fun use, I recommend the 5". I'm biased, since I love the way 5" barrels look, but I think it's a great balance between length, sight radius, weight, and handiness.

If I was going to buy a .44 Magnum (and some day I might) that's the one I would get, right there. Nice.

You will like the Bowen sight -- I had one on a GP100 and was very impressed with it.

Yes I agree and that's why I'm leaning to the 5" barrel. Great look, balance and weight.

Thanks for the pic

They do make for a nicely done .44 revolver, don't they?

I have a 629-4 Classic 6 1/2". Supposedly one of the models which received the Endurance enhancements. I had to have the hammer and trigger replaced because of a tolerance and fitting problem before my first range session. After it was repaired and tuned I had it MagNaPorted and Bead-blasted. Also picked found a black Patridge gold bead front sight.

Never really found a set of round-butt N-frame grips I like, though. I bought a set of wooden grips from the folks who make them for the Performance Center, but afterward realized I should've bought them smooth, instead of checkered.

My brother had a nicely done 5" model one time, before he became bored with it and sold it. I thought the overall balance and heft of the 5" model made for a 'livelier' feel on the firing line.
