I bought some .650 Caliber Centurion 12 gauge 2 3/4" loads. They were real cheap and I figured what the hell.

I am not interested in a comparison of these to slugs

I am curious as to if anyone has more info on these - how much a .650 cal ball weighs (ballpark figure) and if anyone has any terminal ballistics info on something like this. Maybe ballpark figures on penetration. I am curious about what these things can do.

Is that the ammo that contains a .65 round ball and a few buckshot as well?

The lee slugs I cast are basically half a round ball and are .690" dia, IIRC. Those are 1 oz each. My guess would be that .650 RB of pure lead would also be in the neighborhood of an ounce.

Well, if you have some... shoot some at something and tell us how it works :D.

The idea doesn't seem bad at all to me for certain applications. Dixie loads three hard alloy .600" diameter, 315 grain round balls in its 3" TriBall load, and they are reported to work well. http://www.dixieslugs.com/products.html

With the Centurion load, I'd be curious as to how hard the alloy in the 'punkin' balls' are, as well as how much each weighs.

I've been thinking about those loads lately for possible use on board a sailboat...

I'm working on possibly having a place where I can shoot wet phone books :D Still nowhere to shoot stupid stuff like trees or 4x4's like I'd like though :(

It's just like the ones you linked but it's a single .650 ball instead of two of them or the one with buck and ball. I think if these end up being fun I might get some double ball ones too. I don't know why but I can picture these being seriously mean under 50 yards or so.

Would that be mounted as a bow gun on the boat for repelling pirates?

Sorry, I just had to ask........

No, in a pump shotgun or two on board the boat, for repelling pirates. Pump shotguns seem to excite less ire/worry among port authorities than any other firearm, which is the reason for considering shotguns.

Soft lead

A .65 soft lead ball runs 414 grains. The same in WW comes in at 399 grains.

The Centurion loads are soft swaged lead and are slightly tear-drop shaped.
