How common are 2.5" 686-4s? I have ran across one for sale but can't find anything to determine if the asking price ($1150) is ok, high, or way high. Either not many were made, or they are being held onto due to be pre-MIM/lock/+.

Does a -4 in that model give you the flashchromed action parts, or the color case forged parts? Not that MIM is that big a deal, but really prefer the older parts.
If it passes the usual revo tests (times up with a little drag on the cylinder, no end shake...), I'd be all over that like a rooster on a June bug. Older Smith revos are going nowhere but up.

That's probably a fair price in the current market. The 686-4 is considered by many to be the pinnacle of the 686. It had all the engineering improvements, no lock, no MIM parts, and was the last with a hammer mounted firing pin.
The 2.5" barrel seems to be pretty desirable as well.

I was fortunate enough to find a gentleman locally selling a 2.5" 686-4 with Ahrend's grips back in July for $900. I snapped it up quickly
Then I swapped the grips to round butt Ahrends, as I feel they fit the short barrel better and feel good in my hand.
