Just picked up a Remington 788 in 6mm, and need some load suggestions. Have some 60, 85, and 100 grain bullets and plenty of H380 and H335 to put under them. I like the 380 in my 243 under 60 grain Sierras, but I was thinking of loading the 85s for the 6mm. Is either one of my powders better than the other?
Also, where the heck do you find brass? I've "looked over Jordan" and can't find any for a decent price. $80 for 20 cases isn't my idea of a good deal, but that's typical gunbroker foolishness. I've put an ad in the classifieds down below but no joy yet. Is there another case (besides 257 bob) that I can make them out of without a lot of work, or somewhere that I'm missing to find some?

I probably have 50 or 60 pieces if you get desperate.

Superformance would be one powder I would try.
Thanks, I'll look into that one. I've been wanting to try some in my 243 as well. It'd be nice to use the same powder in both cartridges.

I only need 40 or 50 cases. Not gonna be shooting it a lot. I'm definitely interested, so if you'd like to pm me we can talk more.

If you can get H4350? Use that. If you want to use 380, that will work too. Treat it just like a 243, 6 or 6.5 Creed, etc.

I've got plenty of H380, and it's pretty darn accurate in my Weatherby 243. Will have to see how it goes in the 6mm with the 85s. I may have a bit of 4350 sitting around, I'll have to check. Thanks!

For 6mm Rem, use any of the 4350 powders or H4831sc and almost all the 100 grain bullets. All now available.

Also..........last time I was in Graf's in Mexico, this was available in the retail store. A guy could probably pick up 100 pieces or more.......no problem.

Should also mention........for the first time in a long time, 6mm Rem loaded ammo is now available. Gets you some rounds to shoot and brass to reload.

BTW, I've never had or used any H380, but checking the Hodgdon 2023 Annual Manual, H380 is found in many of the 6mm Rem loads. Especially the lighter bullets like 75 grain and such.

I've seen Starline ads featuring 6mm Remington brass, and iirc, Hornady does offer some. As said, 7mm Mauser is the parent case, and if you should happen to run across some Unicorn 257 Roberts brass, same case! I'm not sure of your loading mindset is, but NOT loading to max and beyond is good for barrel and brass longevity!

Classic combo, new project, Brass will turn up. I start with one of the 4895's on new projects like yours. If it wont shoot that stuff your in for it. Good to start with the whole rifle. Some projects start with a box of used parts. Thanks for the topic

Might want to check the twist rate some of the early guns had 1-14 twist and they have issues 95g+ bullets. I have the AI version in a custom gun with a 9twist shooting 105-107 vlds. H4350 and 4831sc have been the best with 95-107g. Lighter bullets RE16.

I looked for a wile before I found some Norma brass, most of the WW and RP brass I have was not very consistent

Thanks everyone! I found some brass, and it arrived on Friday, along with the dies. Haven't had time to sit down and load any yet. Think I'm going to try the 80 grain bullets and H335 first (since I already have it) and see how I go. If that doesn't work, I will pick up a couple different powders and try them out. Would like to find some 4895 but it's like hen's teeth around here it seems.

From where?

A member here responded to my want ad in the classifieds and we made a trade for it. It's prepped and ready to load actually, so all I have to do is prime, charge, and seat bullets. I'm going to work up a ladder to test, but being as how it's going to by 22 degrees on Saturday, I may not get in any hurry to shoot!

I've been loading for the 6mm for about 40 years now. I use IMR-4350 with 100 gr. bullets, usually Hornady. I believe the charge is 43 gr., the MV is right at 3000 fps.
Mine is an old Ruger Flat Bolt my dad bought for me when I was about 12 years old. It's my rifle for first-time hunters and has killed lots of deer and hogs here in Texas.
