Ok let me start of by saying I usually don't post on forums as I have found that just about every question I could ask has already been answered somewhere on the internet. After searching for about 4 hours tonight though I couldn't find this one so here we go. No doubt many of you will see this and think "great another person asking if they can shoot .327 mag out of a nagant", but I kind of want to turn that around. I have the opportunity to buy an SP101 in .327 but with the price of ammo I am hesitant. Then it struck me that a 7.62×38R case is close(ish) to .327 so my big question is, can a 7.62×38R case be trimmed and sized to be used for .327? I ask because I have quite a lot of brass laying around (I can never bring myself to throw it away even if I don't plan on reloading it) or is this a fools errand?

You would have a few things to overcome.
By the specs, the Nagant is larger than the 327. The rim is .010" thicker. The head is .013" larger in diameter. And case diameter near the head is .015" bigger.

Even if your cylinder chambers can accommodate that, it looks like maybe, the wall thickness is much thinner than the 327.

I have no experience with either cartridge, just looking at the specs, so YMMV.

Oh, BTW, welcome to THR! :)

Well from your post you say something about the price of AMMO but then say trimming of brass, so I am guessing you reload??

Perhaps just buy the correct brass and reload it??

Gads, call me crazy:).

Yes, I load the 327 Fed Mag.

Yeah I have been doing some light reloading for the last couple of years mostly just the usual "boring" calibers lol. I thought maybe I could be a cheapo and just use the brass I have but it's sounding like I should just sell it to the etsy people to make necklaces out of haha.

Yeah I thought maybe a resizing die would take care of most of my problems but I'm thinking now that it would be more trouble than its worth even if it worked. I guess there is a reason I couldn't find anyone else doing it haha.

It's not like a semi auto where you will lose the brass, a few hundred cases will last a while. For around $30 for 100 new cases is it worth the hassle and safety of messing with the other brass? Is the 7.62 brass capable of the 327 Federal pressure????

So..... how much 7.62x38r boxer primed brass do you have?

right now probably about 50 or so but I also have 450 rounds of privi laying around. I bought the privi cause I thought I would reload for it but my friend who got me into reloading and C&R attempted it and gave up. Once I saw the fight he had with it, and haveing 10 other calibers to reload for I gave up that ghost. "A ton" might have been a bit of an overstatement haha more like a ton of future brass

It's interesting to reload but I have made it work with the Lee dies and a 30 cal crimp die.
That privi ammo is pathetic I had it bounce off a 55gallon drum.
My reloads are running over 1100.

Sell the brass t o someone who reloads for the Nagant and you can buy .327 ammo with that.
