No, .308 was simply the commercial Winchester name for the military-developed 7.62x51 cartridge. That's it. Military and commercial chambers are manufactured to different specs, not the ammunition.

308 Win “Go" gage is 1.630″
7.62x51 "Go" gage is 1.635″
308 Win “No-Go” gage is 1.634″
7.62x51 "No-Go" gage is 1.6405″
