I was just thinking, that this would be a great idea for an outdoors pistol. You'd get greater range and penetration than any existing revolver. Plus the ammo is cheap.

The other thing is the cylinder length would be identical to 5.56 and the 6.8SPC, (6.5 Grendel should they become available), that gives the revolver maker plenty of chambering options. What do you think?

I've been wanting a 5.56 revolver for a while. It's something I'm going to build when I get the tools. A 7.62 one would be fun, too.

The problem with revolvers and rifle catridges is that the shouldered cases tend to lock the cylinder up when the cases expand. I don't think they have been able to get around that ssue.

There are some new cartridges for the X-frame which mount spitzer bullets at rifle velocities, so very large straight-walled magnums might be the solution to the problem. To replicate the 7.62x39, you might use something like a slightly necked down .357 Maximum case that still headspaces on the big rim not the shoulder.

Isn't chambering a handgun in a caliber w/"armor piercing"ammo available for it a quick way to get the BATFE to shut down the importation of cheap AP plinking ammo?
