I came into a large supply of some of the old Hornady 7.62x39 .310 Zmax Bullets. At first I assumed it was a Vmax bullet with a green tip. After digging around old forum posts I’ve found multiple references to these actually being SST Bullets with a green tip. They have identical BC, size, weight and shape of the SST and it appears that Hornady doesn’t make a vmax in this size and weight (unless long discontinued?)

So my question is, does anyone have any knowledge on these Bullets? I know I can just call Hornady and I plan to but I figured I would ask here first and see what I could turn up.

thanks!

Watching with interest since I just bought some SST's in x39 at .310 diameter. Haven't loaded any yet, waiting on an expander ball to arrive.

They are of V-max design just with a green tip. They have a thinner copper jacket than an SST.

I remember when all the Zmax bullets were basically deep discounted and dumped. I had planned to buy a bunch in .224 cause they were cheap. Alas I waited too long and missed any deals. Others that purchased them said they shot well. Kaldor has your answer.
I missed buying a bunch of the 110 308 Zmax's... I was bummed to say the least.

I remember a rep in one of the hornady videos saying they were vmax with green, wish I would have got a bunch but didn't really have anything at the time to shoot them when they were so cheap.

Could anyone show me a 7.62x39 .310 123gn vmax bullet? I can’t find any.
Only thing in that configuration is the 7.62x39 .310 123gn SST.

Could you snap a photo for me by chance? The Hornady website only lists interlocks, fmj, and sst in that specific weight and size

"V" for Varmint. "Z" for zombie. From what I recall same bullet, different tip...
Yes I understand that. Hornady doesn’t make a 7.62x39 .310” 125gn vmax and I can’t find any evidence they did.
Doesn’t seem like Hornady would create an entirely new bullet to stick a green tip in when they could use the sst they already produce and put a green tip in.

Nobody seems to be able to answer my actual question or produce evidence that there ever was a 7.62x39 .310” 125gn vmax. Unfortunately I missed calling Hornady by 20 minutes so I’ll try tomorrow.

Here the 8th post down is the best evidence I’ve found that there may in fact be SST not vmax
