On my weekly pawn shop sweep I picked up a 700 PSS in .308 with the factory and a Choate stock. $650 so I feel OK.
Tried it out today and no bang.
It cocks and the firing pin sounds like it falls.
No primer mark.
I fieldstripped the bolt and used brake cleaner and CLP, still no joy.
Using a leather lace and rotating the bolt to the fired position the firing pin protrudes.

What is wrong?

My first guess would be too much headspace. It the rifle totally factory, does the recoil lug look to be about the same thickness as a factory recoil lug?

It would take a tremendous amount of excess headspace to prevent getting even a small dent in the primer.
That is very very unlikely.

My guess is the aftermarket stock is not inletted enough for the bolt handle to allow the bolt to close all the way.

If the striker falls, and you have FP protrusion when the bolt is out of the receiver, that's all it can be.

Dang
Started at Zero and took it all apart.
Some goober put one of the long screws in the front of the base.
That was stopping the bolt from the last 5 degrees of rotation.
I couldn't feel it but it was apparently just enough.

"... it was apparently just enough."

Yep. The striker was hitting the cocking cam. You should be fine now but you can chamber a primed case and fire it just to be sure before you return to a range.
