Stopped by my favorite Gun Shop in town and was pleasantly surprised.

He had 3 pump action 30-06 Remingtons a wood stocked carbine and two synthetic stocked models all with scopes. Under $800 each.

He also has a Winchester 94 44mag in very nice shape. It was under 1k.

All neat rifles. I just don't see on racks for sale here everyday.

......hate you 😝 ......now i have to try not to call them and work something out for one of those 760s
I see guys posting that they pay a lot more than that on THR! Now of course you would have shipping and FFL fee's.

I'm not sure how much he sells and ships. I know that he receives stuff from GB & other online sales....

Saw a 760 BDL super clean w extra mag and Leupold 2-7x glossy, 6 or 7 boxes of ammo........$1200.
It was a legit BDL, not a reg 760 sporting basketweave wood set.
BDL 760 has a scallop on rear of receiver.
Lots of folks like the square basket weave wood sets, some folks hate em.
Theyre a cool time piece IMHO.
Alas, one 760 is enough for me.
In fact took my beater in .35 rem out today while braving the wind to count squirrels from a treestand.
Er I mean deer hunt.

One thing I dislike about the 760..............chambering that first round. It aint exactly a quiet affair.

Try to be quiet with a Henry long ranger 308

I just ordered a new barrel, so ill refrain......still tho, thats awful tempting. Those are hard to get ahold of out here.
Save your money, the 760 is junk. Supposedly, the 7600 is better, but Ill never go there again. I imagine they might be ok in, say .223, but any of the major cartridges are just way too much for that action.

I think RC Model summed it up best (apologies if I'm misquoting)- "A pump-action Garand it is not."

That's very good pricing on the 760/7600s, and I looked for one for a while.

I finally found a 7600 in .243 "reasonably" on GB a few months ago for $700 before shipping and $20 XFER. Then spent another $800 getting it where I want it to be.

On 24Hr campfire there's a thread dedicated to pump gun and deer that's 145 pages long. The guys that love them, love them and the guys that don't don't..

What mine is now; 19" 358 Win carbine:

The wood-stocked versions were handsome rifles, if a bit heavy. Unfortunately, they just weren't particularly accurate, durable, or in the case of my example functional in any practical way.
One of the worst guns Ive ever owned. Just my 2c. YMMV of course.
Ive never owned a 7600, or the older 74s 76s. I had a 7400 in 06 that I really liked, and ive used 7600s enough that id like to own one....wouldnt get used a whole lot i dont think, but it would be a neat addition.

The ones you see here are usually beat up and rusted. Getting fired rounds out of the chamber can be problematic, and often the magazines arnt reliable. Which is why if im gonna get one id rather start with a mainland gun, at least there's a decent chance itll run lol

I owned a 760 BDL for a while, it never gave me any trouble, though I only shot a couple hundred rounds out of it. I like the aesthetics of them, and the handling. I've always heard good things about the 760. The gunsmith in town spoke of them as decent guns provided they were given a modicum of care.

My .35 rem 760 is kinda beat up and has lots of bluing missing (bought that way).
It was gunked up bad, took hrs to clean. Bore was copper fouled too.
Shot OK but wasn't smooth, til cleamed up.
Its pretty slick now and puts Hornady 200gr factory ammo around an inch at 100.

Cuz got a .30-06 and it shoots factory 150 gr Corelokts well.

Thought the 740/742 series were the ones known for lesser accuracy.

Old 760/7600 buttplates and .30-06 180gr or heavier...........proly why some folks didn't get decent groups.
Or maybe its because they almost always run see through rings on the dang things.

LMAO

That is my understanding.

I still have a 742 (308) that i bought new in 75... I took countless deer, couple elk and every kind of vermin you can imagine. I loaded lighter loads with this action, 2550 fps, with 3031 or 748, Hornady 165 gr BTSP (3045). The lighter loads were Much easier on the rail the bolt rides on. This gun was very accurate with these loads but with lots of use it has opened up, you could still get a buck easily at 100 yds. 742's were a lot of fun....

The action is strong enough. There are some problems though. One is the chambers needed to be polished and chromed as they liked to catch brass and make for sticky extraction. They also lack powerful primary extraction which exacerbates the problem. Normal pressure ammo only but any cartridge is as bad as another regardless Because of these problems.

I think RC was stating that a 760/7600 is not a battle rifle. I’ve known of too many folks who have thought them rifle versions of a combat 870. They aren’t. Those same folks think the semi auto 740/742/7400 are also some kind of M14 or Garand in disguise. Nope. They do not have the high round longevity of military rifles.

They are hunting rifles only. Not a battle rifle or a military rifle. Although, the 760 was used as a police marksman rifle by many agencies back in the day and it has notoriety as the rifle used in a prominent assassination.

They can have good accuracy but are not as reliable in that regard as a bolt action.

I still have dad’s 94 44 mag from around 1970. Hates cast, fine with jacketed. Birch stock. Won’t part with it or brothers 44 Marlin.
