I think it would work but let me ask can 308 brass be trimmed and run threw a 7mm-08 resizing die? and used in the 7-08

I dunno. Resizing the neck to a smaller diameter requires a longer starting cartridge, to provide the extra material in the shoulder. I would imagine that resizing 308 to 7mm08 or 243 would result in a short-for-standard end product.

Just be careful. The only time I have blown a primer was on a hot load in my 7-08 and a 243 case got mixed in. I ran it through the dies and did not catch it. Pulled the trigger and got a puff of gas in the face.

That taught me a lesson I still remember 15 years ago now. Inspect your brass!

By the way, The reason it blew was the volume change between the 7-08 and the 243. It was a hot load on a 110F day and the difference in volume was all it took according to Seirra when I talked to them about it.

Yes, BUT you will end up with a case shorter than even recommended trim-to-length for the 7-08. .020, 2.035, 7-08 compared to 2.015 for the .308.

Not a big deal, but something to consider. Also the neck WILL end up thicker than it would be for standard 7-08. Not enough to be a worry in a factory barrel though.

Am I understanding this correctly...

To make 7mm-08 cases from .308 cases (parent case) just resize in 7mm-08 die and trim as necessary??

If anybody does make 7mm-08 from .308 how do they mark the brass so you know it's now a 7mm-08 cases?? Fingernail polish?????

Timely topic OP. I need some 7mm-08 brass and the price of it new is very expensive.

The first part is right, but as I said above, you will be .020 short of trim-to-length numbers for the 7-08. Then if you trim further, you will be really short.

As far as ID for the new case, get a sharpie in whatever color you think will help you remember.

i use .308win cases necked down to 7mm08., your cases will be short in the neck, but not by much and they are fine. One thing you might find is that, you will have trouble chambering the newly loaded round. this was the case with me. it was not neck thicknes it was shoulder issues. I ended up making a slim shim out of a piece of coke can and put it in the shell holder under the case. also when you start on load work, start low and work up. when you have fired a round take the un resized empty case and try to fit a new bullet in. It should get in no problem. if there is no way it is going in you might need to turn the necks or your pressures might be high.

ps you can also size up .243win
