Purchased a 7mm-08 (22" barrel, 1:9.5" twist) for my bride for her birthday. I've been searching far and wide for reasonably priced bullets, of the 139gr range, to make target/plinking rounds. I will load hunting loads for mule deer or elk with good quality 160gr bullets, but for her enjoyment of reduced recoil, fun shooting wanted to go with a lighter bullet for plinking purposes. RMR currently only has 160's, although I find the $.13/bullet acceptable. Is my thinking about the lighter bullet being that much of a difference of recoil off-base? Thanks ahead of time for any advice or sources for bullets. CCW

MidwayUSA has some Hornady Blems. You can't hardly beat the 139grn Interlock for any 7-08 use. I bought a lifetime supply several years ago at ~$9/100 for btspt's.
They perform as good or better than partitions. Current aren't boat tail.

The Hornadys are hard to beat. The 139's should do nicely and if you want to step it up some the 154 7mm Interlock has piled up a bunch of deer and elk when shot from a 280 Rem.

120gr 7mm bullets are very accurate and low recoil too. I've been buying some discontinued Speers at a good price.

For powder, RL17 is the stand out. 48.0grn under 139grn Hornady will hit 3,000fps from my 20" RemM7. As accurate as anything I've run through it. And, not a max load! Went as high as 50 but no significant improvement.

Sierra makes a 130 grain Matchking. No light weight match grade 7mm bullets from Hornady. They do make a 162 grain. And hordes of 139 grain hunting bullets that'd do nicely in a hunting rifle. Kind of suspect a 139 SST would be good for mulies too.

Thank you for the responses. Good thing I'm a patient man, it may take a while and constant vigilance to find more reasonably priced bullets to supply my bride's itchy trigger finger. :D
