7mm Creedmoor——-who’s in???

I look at what a 7mm CM may do for the other cartridges?
Some of the bullets that were developed as part of the 6.5 & 6 cm are available for the other 6.5 & 6 cartridges.

We had a pretty big vacuum in the 6 and 6.5mm realm which needed the right barrel twists and case volumes to justify. The same for 25cal - until we had >130grn bullets truly available on the market, quarter-bores didn't make a lot of sense as long range rifles. Now we have some. But the 7mm doesn't really have that issue - we've had bigger cases and heavier bullets AND lighter bullets available for 7mm for a long time. Sure, as you mentioned, the emergence of the 7RUM, RSAUM/WSM, and 7 PRC all gave little breaths of new life to a few bullets in 7mm, but we've had 120-180grn bullets available in 7mm for a long, long time already - and a 7 Creed wouldn't have enough case capacity to do anything with bullets heavier or longer than the existing 180's (and already may not even make great use of 180's, if we're honest).

So I'm not terribly sure I think there's room for a 7mm Creed to do any lifting of the 7mm bullet choices by any bootstraps. That lift has already been made. We're just seeing better and better rifle manufacturing and better and better bullet technology AND better and better understanding of terminal ballistics in the market which has shifted the ideals of hunters from believing they need 3000fps+ "lasers" with light-for-caliber bullets to take game, moving towards a higher sectional density, higher impact momentum, higher efficiency strategy, where guys realize they can hunt, ethically and effectively, with a 6.5creed everything the former generation believed needed a 30-06 to solve, and with a short action 6.5 PRC everything the former generation had believed we needed a 7RM or 300WM to solve. So we filled down in caliber some open gaps for phenomenal bullet weights which could finally be utilized by better application of barrel twists.

Are things headed towards higher than current pressure cartridges? Short action cartridges needing loaded in long actions to shove enough powder in to move heavy bullets at high velocity, varying shoulder angles, etc. You name it, it’s been tried. Intentionally loading over pressure has been done, we know what happens in that case.

Looks to me like raising pressure is the next step, which is a can of worms.

If you’re thinking about a 7 CM you might as well step up to the 7.6 CM
