7mm Mag & 300 weatherby Mag powder

I am new to reloading can I use the same powder for both cal. . And if so what is a good powder to use for this. Also does anybody buy your reloading supplies at Walmart. Going to get the RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme master kit next week. Is there something besides powder , bullets , primers , dies , & shell holder that I might need to get. Thanks for all the help for a new guy

They can share similar powders, but often each rifle will have it's favorite recipe.

Here's a couple links to Hodgdon's powder and Alliant's powder sites. Study them and compare and make an informed decision based on velocity and pressure.

You didn't mention a powder measure or powder scale, and I consider a good beam scale very important. Electronic scales will work, but can be expensive, and the cheaper electronics sometime vary the charge weight.

I had good results using Hodgdon H4831 with some Speer 160gr boattails a few years ago in my 7mm Mag. (CCI Large Rifle Magnum primers).
There are a lot of gadgets involved in reloading, as you probably know......powder measure, powder scales, micrometer etc.
If you're just getting started, you should do a lot of reading on the subject to familiarize yourself with the safety concerns and proceedures. It's a lot of fun!

There are several good powders that would work well in each. My 1st pick would be Alliant Reloder 22 followed closely by IMR7828. IMR 4831 works well in both but REL 22 or IMR 7828 are highly recommended. I've shot Norma MRP which is supposed to be the equivalent to REL 22 in my 300 Weatherby with good results. Check your manuals and compare the powders with the weight bullets you'll be using mostly. I use Federal 215 Magnum primers only in my Weatherby.

my buddy loads his weatherby 300 with IMR 7828 and 180gr. nosler partitions. I've been highly impressed with his accuracy......i'm doin' the same with my 300 win mag...just getting started though, hadn't shot any yet

I'm a long time fan of RL22 because it is a good slow burning powder that offers plenty of room to go up and down with your powder charge.
So far as needed loading tools, I think the bare minimum to safely begin your new hobby is a case trimmer, Lee offers an inexpensive one that trims to length and will work off your drill. You need a dial caliper, a decent scale, ream and chamfer, primer pocket cleaning tool, case lube, powder funnel, loading tray. I don't know what method you planon using to measure and drop your powder charges so it's difficult for me to offer help in that area. I individually weigh each charge and manually drop it in the funnel. If this is how you plan to work you'll appreciate a powder scoop kit. If not others will have plenty of options to suggest. I also think a bullet comparator is important to have, and is a tool you'll appreciate throughout the years. I don't personally use mine very often, but that is just me. I almost forgot one of the most important items, one or several good hand loading books.
