exactly militiaman, i am perfectly comfortable shooting up to 400 yards or so with my 7 mag but when archery hunting i lower it to 40, it really does depend on how you are hunting and your personal skills.

I don't care who you are, what your capabilities are, or what the circumstances are. If your taking 850yd shots on game I wouldn't consider it hunting. That range from 400ish I consider acceptable when considering the terrain, weather, game, and situation. That is the challenge of hunting, being able to get that close to the animal without it realizing the fact.

Buy it. Like others said, the old tried and true '06 is a fine round and just because you go with a 7mag, doesn't mean that you have to abandon the '06 at all. Having more than one rifle to chose from is a good thing.

Mine shoots cheap 150gr Federal Power-Shoks as well as any handload I've tried. I would take a shot at up to 350 yards with it in a heartbeat as long as I had time to get a good kneeling position.
