What is the deal with 7rds magazines vs 8rds magazines? My Kimber Eclipse has 8 rds and my Kimber Warrior has 7 rds in the magazine.... they are both the same size pistols, and both the same size magazine, just one is 8 and the other is 7.... what gives?

Seven rounds was the original design/capacity of the 1911 magazine; the eight-rounders are a much more recent development. Some competitions require the use of seven-round magazines. This is why, for example, Wilson magazines come in both seven- (#47A) and eight-round (#47D) capacities even though the size of the magazine is the same. Barring idiosyncracies of an individual gun, there is no difference in reliability between the two. It is not surprising, therefore, that seven- and eight-rounders can be mixed up, even between guns of the same manufacturer.

With a defensive sidearm, I see no reason not to take advantage of newer technology and add an extra round. It can't hurt. ;)

And then one in the chamber makes 9!

It's sounding better all the time. ;)

use the 8rds for carry and a pair of 10rd mags for back up

Which oddly enough, gives you 29 rounds with 2 reloads. If you were carrying a Paraordnance P14 with one up the spout and a spare 14 round mag, you'd have -- TA DA! 29 rounds, with one reload.

Hmmmm . . .

Or do like I do and buy the CMC 10rd Power mags, that way you have 10+1 ready to go.

To answer your original question, I believe that SOCOM still has to use the USGI approved 7rd mags, and since the Warrior is a copy of the USMC SOCOM pistol, they just sell it with one as well. They don't do that with the Eclipse since it's not a military copied firearm. I thought it was pretty stupid since all I buy are the HI-cap ones.

that is a great thing to be able to do, but i can't get my hand around one of those hi cap para's to save my life.
