As the title says, looking for some data on the 7x57. Rifle is my 1895 Chileno Mauser, Lowe of Berlin. Totally sporterized. I used to load for this YEARS ago using Hornady 139gr spitzers and 154gr spitzers.
But, cannot recall what powder or how much. Looking thru all my kept notes, cannot find any info for this rifle. I do have older and newer manuals, but, data is pretty much all over the place.
Sooo, was wondering if any of you here have a load or two for this model 7x57. It does look like IMR 4064 or one of the 4350 powders would work well. I simply can't recall or find my old notes. Thanks.

If you list what powders you have on hand, someone may be able to help you. Your 1895 Mauser can handle pressures around 50,00 PSI or 46,000 CUP. Not as high as a 98 Mauser action.

Hodgdon reloading center has a lot of 7x57 Mauser reloading data with listed pressures. You can to check there to find a suitable load. There is lots of data there.

Buddy of mine ran a 140 Nosler with 45ish gr(44.8 or 45.2 sticks in my mind; like just one side or the other of 45) of H4350. He tried another 4350, but was unhappy with the temp stability. His was happy in a very narrow window. But it was sub moa then.

I would use one of the 4064s varget on n140 with a 140 grainer.... most of those will likely be happiest near max. The aa-4064 is slower, easier to find and was cheaper than the imr. The vhit powders are now some of the cheapest in this upside down world. I really like n135 but haven't run 140 yet. I have n-150 for testing with 109s in 6.5x55

I have IMR 4064, H 4350, H 4831sc, Varget and Win 748.

Love these charts because they show all the imr options. I'm really becoming a guy who loads based on my supply and if I can get more. My imr-4064 supply is low and my willingness to use unknown combinations in 7.7 is also low, so that's what it's slated for. I got aa-4064 to replace it so that is run in 308. I don't need any small velosity increase that a 4350 would give for the amount of additional powder for shooting an old war horse. If I was hunting and required the additional fps for terminal ballistics then maybe. 748 used to be cheaper but at 50 a pound while n-140 is 42 a pound, I pass on that if I had better loads in other guns. I'd also be considering imr-4895 or n135. Screenshot_20240414_102204_OneDrive.jpg 20240410_113804.jpg
