Hi all,
I have a 870 marine magnum at home for home defence. I dry shot it about 10-15 times just to pratice myself without knowing that it could damage the gun. Now the question im asking you guys is my gun really damaged?? Cause i dont want the fire pin or the hammer to break dont on me while i got a arm robber in front of me.

Thank you all for info and you guys what will you do?? will you buy another firing pin and hammer???

it's probably fine, if you are too nervous about it : disassemble and inspect for yourself:) many manufacturers will tell you if dry firing is harmful to their product. usually EXCESSIVE dry firing can damage the firing pin because there is no primer to slow it down before slamming home

It's more than likely just fine.

My suggestion if you're really worried learn how to take it apart and look at every component in the firing system to make sure they look fine. It's daunting at first but it's very rewarding to be able to take your guns apart to every last component and put them back together.

If you're concerned about damaging the gun, I suggest picking up some snap caps. I like the A-Zoom ones myself.

Take it to the range instantly, immediately, right now.

Load it.

Try to fire it.

If it shoots, it's fine. My bet is it'll shoot, for at least the next 20 years, every time you drop the hammer on a live round.

Seriously, lots of 870s in LEO hands get dry fired 3 times a day (at shift change), every day, for years. It isn't something i would make a habit of personally. But an occasional drop of the hammer on a double checked (visual AND TACTILE) empty chamber is not going to hurt the gun. Hey- that's why we buy 870s.

8^)
