While cleaning my 870 express i noticed some small groves in the upper inside of the receiver perpendicular to the direction the bolt travels to lockup. Is this normal wear? She's about seven w/few thousand rounds through her. Thanks

New one on me. Went and checked a couple 870s, didn't see it. Is the stroke smooth? Any hangups? If none, I wouldn't worry...

If I were to guess, I would say that this is another Express vs. handfinished-the-old-fashioned-way issue. Express models are self-finishing but of course they only wear where they rub.
I will take a look at my Express's this evening and let you know what they look like inside.

Dave, do you own any Express models? Just wondering.

Mike

Just checked my Express. I too have wear/drag marks at about 11:30 inside the receiver. I don't think it's any big deal. My 870 runs fine. :)

Same marks on my Express. Began showing up around 800 rounds or so. I have several friends who own 870s (all Express models), and I've seen this type of wear inside thier recievers, as well.

Mike, the 20 gauge is a YE. Didn't check that. Did recheck Frankenstein, one small mark. That one is the smoothest here, tied with the HD oldster.

Since this is turning up in functionally perfect 870s, IMO it's no prob.

My Express' have the same lines plus a dent where the locking block hits. They all work just fine and the wear does not look like it's getting bad or anything.
