... Wow, I misread the intent of your original post OP.

As long as a Mauser is chambered for the modern 7.92x57 cartridge, the lock design and metallurgy will handle any ammo that was ever factory produced...
Well, no, I think you read correctly on the first read. It's a 1941 wartime production, so chambered for the wartime load, I would presume. I didn't find any indication of it being re-barrelled or otherwise.

7.92x57 is really a handloaders cartridge these days. Hard to find factory ammo at reasonable prices and the surplus is difficult to find as compared to 20 years ago when I got my first Mauser....

Yes, and it doesn't take much, the chloride residue is measurable in milligrams, assuming that one shot blows out most of the residue from the previous rounds. (It doesn't get it all, "cleaning" by firing a little noncorrosive is not reliable.)

John Taylor said of cleaning one's express rifle in camp that if you don't have enough water to spare for your barrels, left over coffee will do. And, worse comes to worst "you always have something with you that is mostly water."

20 something years ago when I shot lots of corrosive mil-surp ammo the barrel would get swabbed out with Shooters Choice or Hoppe's #9 before I even left the range and then get a good cleaning as soon as I got home. Never had a problem. Just don't let 'em sit around after firing that stuff. I've shot corrosive 8x57, 7.62x54R, and a ton of the old .303 British with Cordite propellant that was well known to be real corrosive. Didn't even need water as long as I swabbed out the bore with a good solvent as soon as I was done shooting that gun and before it got put back in the case.

The bulk of PPU available in the US is down loaded a bit. The S&B stuff is full power. I think the Hornady stuff is pretty warm too. The FedRemWin 170 gr is like a hot .30-30.
Plus one on the S&B.
I shot their 196gr fmj. It's accurate and hot.

I had some Turkish 8 MM that was too hot for my Hakim. I took it apart and reloaded it. Nice looking 98. Mine is a Yugo capture. The stock looked like it was in a fire with some burn marks. Nice K98's command a large price these days.
