Hello all,
I need help with ammo for my drilling. After having the chamber cast, it was determined to be 8x60JR (.318"). I've looked all over the net and haven't had any success finding either loaded ammo or empty brass. Anybody have suggestions?
Any help is much appreciated!

In a word: ouch. It's going to be a hand loading affair, since I doubt you will find any loaded factory ammunition at less than collector prices. If you can find 8x57IR loaded ammunition, this should fire form OK but will still be a couple of millimeters short. I found one mention that 8x57IR is available from S&B. The most available Boxer primed brass for reforming would be the 9.3x74R, which would be cut to length then run through the sizing die. C-H seems to be amenable to making dies for odd calibers, I found a mention of 8x64R dies, same case shape but just the few mm shorter.

Bullets in .318" are available from Hawk and Woodleigh, the bullet weight would be around 196gr. The RWS factory loaded this weight to 2580 fps, your loading data could be taken from one of the hand loading manuals for the equivalent velocity in 8x57.

Always a good project to get a fine old gun shooting again!

It's rimmed, right? A .444 Marlin case might be made to work. It's a 10th of an inch shorter overall, but there's plenty there for a full shoulder. Far from ideal, you just wouldn't have a long neck. That rifle probably has fast rifling so a heavy long bullet would be typical. I bet it would still sit in the neck good and give the spec COAL. That "lost" neck wouldn't even be missed. Aneal the heck out of it and form away. It'd be a project.
