I stumbled across an '91 Argentine Mauser today in beautiful condition for $99 and I'm not sure if I should give it a home.

The barrel is full length, the metal is pristine and overall its extremely clean, however there is one minor problem. Some fool cut off half the stock in a very poor attempt to make the rifle Sporterized, it almost brought a tear to my eye when I saw it. It still has the handguard its just missing half of the original stock.

My question is this, would the gun be worth paying $99 for and can I find a replacement full length stock for a reasonable price. If I can't find an original stock for it then I don't want it. However if an original stock can be found and there is a chance of undoing the desecration committed by the previous owner of this old gun then I would certainly jump at the chance.

I get it anyway and If I'm not mistaken the wood up front is the same as a 93 or 95. So maybe you could splice a front one on under the band?.................Bob

get it!I just got 2 Argentine 1909 Mausers and they are so nice.A 1891 is on my agenda also. For that price Id get it just because.

You won't be able to find a whole replacement stock, Interarmco and other importers wholesale sporterized thousands of them for sale at Sears and Montgomery Wards in the 1960s. That said, centerfire bolt-action-rifle in a .30-cal full-power cartridge with pre-WW1 German craftsmanship for $89? Why're you bothering to ask?

And yes, you probably could splice a Turkish '93 stock on and have a good-enough substitute.

Thanks guys,

I'll pick it up tomorrow and post some pics of it once I have it. Thanks for the stock advice I'll figure something out eventually. The more I think about, poorly sporterized or not it deserves a loving home and I would feel guilty not to give it one.
