hello,
i am a new member. i have been saving up to buy a winchester 9422. i saw a beauty in a local gun store. problem is, when i tried to run a half dozen snap caps through it to check it out, it constantly malfunctioned, with the caps, not feeding and the lever jamming.
i ran the same caps through a used henry golden boy in the shop and they performed flawlessly.
the winchester was really nice and the price was right, if it worked. any idea what the problem might be. would it be too expesive to fix, and should i continue shopping?
thanks,
winnie

sometimes the takedown screw holding the receiver gets loose on mine causing the receiver to loosen up. you might check for that.

I can't think of anything too serious that would cause that to happen. Maybe a weak magazine spring or just a really dirty gun on the inside. I've never tried snapcaps in any of mine, so I'm not sure if my rifles would digest them either. Don't take this wrong, but are you certain it wasn't a 9422M?

I'd hate to see anyone pass up a good deal on a nice 9422. Those kind of deals seem to be few and far between.

Never tried running snap caps through mine don't even have any. I'd run real stuff through it if it was mine although I HIGHLY doubt the gun shop is going to let you do that. Did you ask the owner about it maybe they'd give you a price reduction on it or fix it for you. I know mine doesn't like when you run shells through it real slow like your trying to be really quiet, you have to run it through like you mean buisness then it works fine.
