Trying to come up with a decent load for this bullet.

I come up with 3.9 grains of AA#5, but don't really like the idea of that tiny volume of powder behind such a large bullet. Even in the tiny 9mm case it's a pretty small amount.

Another option would be AA#7, but I can't find any. I do have some #9, but don't see any published load data for anything other than Magnum loads of other calibers.

"Small amount" has nothing to do with anything if it develops the right pressure.

There isn't enough room in the case with a 147 grain bullet seated for #9, even if it did work otherwise.

Accurates site shows AA #5:
3.6 to 4.0 with a 147 grain XTP.
3.9 to 4.3 with a 145 lead bullet.

Your 3.9 grain load should be fine.
Just reduce 10% and work up to it.

I just loaded my 1st Missouri Bullet 147gr LFP, and data was 4.6-5.1gr of #5. (Well, 145 gr LRN was that load, and 147 XTP is 4.8-5.3) Went with 4.9 +/- .1gr, and they shot quite well with minimal leading.

I'm confused, as lead is loaded lighter than jacketed, and your load #'s are a full grain below mine! Who's working off the wrong line in the chart? (Hope it wasn't me!!)

147 XTP - 4.7 - 5.3?

Hate to tell you this, but you were looking at the .357 SIG data.

9mm 147 XTP is as I stated.
3.9 - 4.3.

BTW: This is exactly why I hate on-line data so much, and prefer hard-copy reloading manuals.
It's really hard to get on the wrong chapter of a book!

Looking at the AA 3.3 manual, page 3 from RC's link above, I see

9mm Luger AA #5
147 XTP 4.9-5.3
145 LRN 4.6-5.1

I see 3.6-4.0 for #2 and 147 XTP and 3.9-4.3 for #2 and 145 lead in 9mm respectively.

Oops!

I was thinking AA #5 and looking AA #2.

My bad!

Thats why I like Alliant powder names like Unique and Red-Dot & 2400.
Even my feeble dyslexic brain can tell the difference in names.

Whew! I was wondering why my loads didn't go BOOM! instead of bang!. :D

Got great accuracy off the MBC 147 9mm w/ 4.9 AA#5. Just wish the #5 didn't leak out of the hopper....

5.0 grains of AA #5 is about as accurate with a 147 FMC bullet as anything I've shot in my guns. The load was suggested to me by a GSSF shooter and I found it precisely as he said. Reasonably soft load, will function a stock gun fine and will in most cases, out-shoot the shooter. OAL of course, will depend on the ogive of the bullet you're using...in my case, it was the Remington FMC-FP which loads a bit shorter than RN profiles.

Sure enough.... I read from the wrong (AA #2) line. So I was right for the wrong reason :)

Indeed, 3.9 is to low for my 147 grain bullet. I'll bump it up to 4.8 and see where it goes from there.
