Hello

Sorry if this might be redundant, but I am in a quandary. I have a .45ACP 1911 that I shoot incredibly well and love the platform. However, I would like to have a 9mm range gun for bulls eye target shooting as well as general defense (car, boat, home).

I have a strict budget and so will have to trade my SIG P239 for it and do not want to go more than a couple hundred over that.

I have been looking for a 1911 in 9mm and could get the STI Spartan. Like the gun a great deal, but....I will not be able to trade my SIG P239 (since I would have to order it new) and....I really would like to try a side arm that I could put a laser on (very expensive in the 1911 platform).

SO.....have been thinking about other platforms that are easier to find, have a light rail and could be found in a shop or show so that I could put the 239 towards a trade.

Thought long and hard about a CZ SP-01, but ....just cannot seem to go there. Not sure why. And not into the BHP (if I were to go with that type of platform....I would get a 1911).

NOW....I am thinking...SIG P228/229. I like SIG's, shoot them well.Love the SIG trigger. Not too enamored with the 226....it is on the clunky side. Like my P239 and shoot very well with it, but it is not really a target gun (and no rail...though could get the LaserLyte sites for it).

I will not be shooting in competition, but I do want a gun that will enable me to do my personal best. A gun that will give me bulls eye performance.

SO.... keep looking for a 1911 9mm (give up on the light rail and spend a few more months looking for one that is reasonably priced I could trade for). Or....would a SIG 228/229 accord itself as well in bulls eye shooting?

Thank you in advance...I realize you have all probably been here before...but comments would be very helpful.

Best

John

Sig P229 9mm sounds right

...

P229 sounds right to me, as I own 3 of them, two in 40cal and one is a P229R 9mm with CT laser grips.. IIRC, I got it, with the CT grips, for NIB gun and grips for 1049.oo

Must say, haven't lost one bit of :) shooting it thru some 5350 flawless rounds over the last 3yrs, along with the "benefit" of CTC laser grips vs a rail mounted one, which one needs a special holster for whereas, with the laser "grips" any of my IWB or OWB holsters work perfectly with them..

Just think of the package, both NIB P229R 9mm and some CTC laser grips as a once in a lifetime "investment" as the gun and the laser grips will sell themselves every time you shoot it, look at it, clean it, etc..

Easy to lighten the DA pull as well via 22 bucks, IIRC, for a set package of Wolff main springs, 21lb, 20, 19, 18, 17, 16lb and install yourself which takes but 5 mins taking one's time..

All ya have to do when you like which one, lb wise, feels best, is test it thru 500 rounds and, with, no light strikes, you're good to go.. One of my P229 n/r 40's has a 17lb main spring and it has, now, over 3000 flawless rounds using the 17lb main spring.. Just light and sweet/smooth

And, with a P229, far more round count per mag than either of your other possibilities..

I've just purchased Kimber Ultra II in 9mm I've got 400 rounds of various ammo through it including JHPs not one FTF or problem of any kind ,no rail but laser grips seem way to go for carry anyway rail always present problem with carry because of bulk and holstering. And you've still got that perfect 1911 patform does'nt get any better, thats just my 2 cts.

P228 is a fine little defensive weapon but would not be my first choice for a bullseye target pistol. I'd get a good .22 but most modern shooters don't think that a serious gun. The .45 will handle all other duties.
