Just a comment on shooting a 9mm Hi Power vs. shooting a 9mm 1911. I've been a Hi Power fan, and have shot Hi Powers longer than I've shot 9mm 1911s. I still have a Hi Power or two, but in recent years, I've shot the 9mm 1911s a lot more. Now when I take a Hi Power to the range, I immediately notice the lighter Hi Power's sharper recoil. No way around it, the 1911s heavier weight does soak up recoil. My Hi powers weigh ~32 oz., the 9mm 1911s ~40 oz., one a bit more than that. That extra half pound or so matters. The 9mm 1911's moderate recoil, with even the heaviest loads, is one of the things I enjoy about them. When I was younger and stronger, I didn't notice so much difference, but in my decrepitude, I sure notice now...

Ya, a closed mind misses out on a lot of firearms variety. What must that fella think of my 45 colt rifle or my 22LR kit for my AR. Ect ect
Mine has palm swells just above where the heater elements aresteering wheels used to have finger grips too
The inventory was probably pushed out by the "Baby Rocks"--the Rock Island/Armscor 80% sized 9x17 1911 model line. Those sold for a bit, then all the other variants came out, so the "babies" may be Out of Production right now. They show up at larger gun shows and every so often with the online sellers.Haven't seen one in stores in a very long time.

They were bigger than the compact 380s, and "weaker" than the midsize nines--that made them a complicated item to market, let alone sell.
I agree, I like the 9mm and love it in 1911 format. I carry a Ruger ec380 but with the 9mm conversion kit installed...I used to feel that way. Now I have 5 of them (if you count the double-stack variants.) Extremely fun to shoot, fast, accurate, cheap to feed, can shoot hundreds of rounds in a day (even self defense loads) and not be sore. No worries that it'll eventually wear out your aluminum frame.
There's a lot going for a 1911 in 9mm. Try it - you may love it.
I wouldn't refinish that gun.But those PW Arms import markings on the slide...
My favorite beater Israeli FN Hi Power has them on the other side of the slide. If I ever get it refinished, I'll ask them to remove the import markings.

I wouldn't refinish that gun.
Run it as is and add more wear.
Buy a like new FN for a range toy
My 1911’s have been great as far as reliability goes.Going back to my Tisas Carry 1911 / 1911 Curse / Anti-1911 Rant.
My buddy ran 200 some rounds through this gun with no issues.
I just shot it again. Magazine 1:

It's probably me and not the gun. But I can't get any other design or semi-auto handgun to fail in my hands like 1911's do.
I think you’re on to something. If your buddy can shoot 200 flawless rds through it— it’s not the gun.Going back to my Tisas Carry 1911 / 1911 Curse / Anti-1911 Rant.

Why? I have no idea. Maybe limp wrist, maybe he’s hitting the slide stop, maybe he’s pressing in on the slide stop on the ejection port side. Not sure, but he’ll do it almost every time.
I had an issue with my Tisas B9 not extracting well. A Wilson Combat extractor fixed it.Going back to my Tisas Carry 1911 / 1911 Curse / Anti-1911 Rant.

Wish I’d found that article when I was having extraction problems. I pretty much found all of that info by watching 50 youtube videos about extraction problems, differences between 45 ACP and 9 MM extractors and tuning extractors.I was looking for something else and came across this in my endless list of stuff I usually never go back to.
I haven't seen him posting recently, but Steve in Allentown, who is a member here is very knowledgeable about the 1911's and had posted this up about the extractors when I was first fooling with my Service model Tisas. Its well worth the read, and I did follow some of it when it came to breaking some edges on the hook and fitting the extractor.
Maybe drop him a line if he's still around and he can maybe point you in the right direction.

When Steve in Allentown talks 1911’s, I just stop talking and start taking notes.I was looking for something else and came across this in my endless list of stuff I usually never go back to.
