Need some help.

I want to reload some 147 Gr XTP using Sillouette powder. I've checked all my books and can't find a load for this combination. Has anyone ever loaded these and if so what did you use.

I looked at My Ramshot book and see a few other 147 gr bullets loaded with this powder but no XTP's.

I have the following powders to work with:
Sillouette
Longshot
IMR4227
IMR 800X
Vihtavuori N110

I know that N110 isn't an option. Any suggestions?

Hey Parman - I was looking through the Lee second edition and they listed several XTP 147gr. choices :) with the powders mentioned.

IMR 800X: Start 3.5gr - Max. 4.0gr OAL (min) 1.100"
Longshot: Start 3.8gr - Max. 4.7gr OAL (min) 1.100" pp 511-512

I've used Longshot with the Hornady 147gr XTP 4.4gr CCI-500 SPP OAL 1.06" works great in my G19.
I mostly use VV N-340 & 3N37 for my XTP's in 9mm

REMEMBER: Startin' low is the way to go .....

Hope this helps....;)

EDIT: Winchester Action Pistol (WAP) is a very good powder for 9mm Luger. It has been rebranded as Silhouette :)
Steve's Pages is a good resource for old information on reloading ~ www.stevespages.com
@http://stevespages.com/355p_4_147.html ~ he lists the 147grain range 3.7gr MIN to 5.3gr MAX for WAP.
Check & verify all load data before use, as this information is not published in current reloading manuals.

Thanks for the tip. I've used the 800X for 115 gr but not the 147 gr.

Maybe I'll load 50 with 800X and 50 with Longshot and test at the range before loading a bunch of them.

From the RAMSHOT SILHOUETTE web page.....

147gr SPEER TMJ FN 3.9gr 834fps 4.6gr 946fps 34,066psi 1.130"OAL

The Speer Total Metal Jacket data will be close enough to allow you to begin at the starting load of 3.9gr and work up toward 4.6gr, using something like 0.2gr increments. You may not always find the XTP listed, so then you have to go with the closest construction of the same bullet weight.

Hope this helps.

If you have found data for another jacketed 147 gr. use that data, good to go.

Other wise, try using Longshot. I run LS in all my 9mm jacketed loads, and it rocks with any of the jacketed bullets I run with it. Pressures are significantly lower, while velocities are significantly higher.

Yes, the XTP does expand at 1000 fps, reliably too!

Does the 147gr XTP expand at 1,000 fps ?
I believe the Hornady ammo is rated at 975fps at the muzzle. I would ASSume it will expand at 1,000fps. I've loaded some of the 147gr XTPs using Power Pistol, I loaded them a bit 'warm', 1050fps. Like you might have seen, I'd read and watched a couple videos where the XTPs were inconsistent for expansion. Usually because of slower speeds.

I have used the 800x in your application. It works fine, velocity is a little low. The longshot should be better. I use unique to good effect.
