just picked up a new Glock 17 gen 4, been reloading for along time, so i just went thru a box of 135gr SNS Casting coated bullets and a box of 124gr Extreme plated bullets. not sure exactly wheat the glock likes yet, but my new SR9C likes the extreme plated 125 bullets so far, question... what are good brands that offer good quality 9mm plated bullets, was going to try Berry's but unless they changed their plating process, been reading some reviews of plating was very thin coating and only rated for 1100 or 1200 fps. any comments on Bullet Works plated bullets. not too sure if the coated bullets are equal to the plated, now that is from what i see. anyone having as good luck with coated vs plated in their glocks

thanks
Chet

Yeah, 1200fps is moving along pretty well for 124gr 9mm. I'm using Bayou Bullets 124gr LRN and also Precision Delta 124gr JHPs. For general range stuff, I've got them loaded to just under 1100fps, averaging about 1080fps for both using Power Pistol. I've noticed the LRN shoot 'softer' than the JHPs. The LRN are loaded a bit longer, (1.130" vs 1.100"), which might have something to do with it. I'm still trying to figure which one is more accurate, (both are more accurate than me).

Never had any trouble with Berry's in a Glock 19. I can't imagine you're going to hit 1200 in a 17.
The only issue I had with plated in Glocks is they don't seem to be quits as accurate as jacketed. In guns or barrels with land & groove rifling, plated shoot better. I suspect the soft swaged cores of the plated bullets are letting the bullets slip in the rifling.

How do you like the coated bullets in your 9mm?

Rocky Mountain Reloading has their own brand of Thick plated, harder cored 9mm plated bullets that would be good for up to around 1500fps.

BDS has been testing them for a while now and his testing has come back as they are pretty decent bullets.

Berry's offers thick plated 9mm also or they used to, I haven't been on their site for a while.

Berry's has the thick-plate (TP) version of plated bullets rated up to 1500 fps
The HBRN's & the HBFP's have worked well for me ~ Glock 19.

I use Xtreme in my G22 the work great but I don't load them hot I load around
1025 fps for paper punching no reason to beat my gun up for range work. I do
work up hotter loads with XTP's but for the plated paper puncher's plated low to
mid range work great for me.

I've used the Berrys, X-treme, and lately the aforementioned RMR extra thick plate. I think they are my newest favs, plus they have the THR discount and all. X-treme runs lots of specials....

Why try to push the bullets to their max FPS for punching holes in paper? I reload for function and accuracy. For defence and carry I buy factory.

mainly posted this was i heard Berry's were really only rated at 1100 fps, and were having some very thin plating.

We guarantee our Standard Bullets to handle velocities up to 1,250 fps, and up to 1,500 fps for the bullets designated as TP (thick plated).

Our 30-30 and 45-70 bullets can handle velocities up to 1,700 fps.

Our 7.62x39 bullets can handle velocities up to 1,900 fps

Our 30 Carbine bullets can handle velocities up to 1,950 fps.

Our 500 S&W bullets can handle velocities up to 2,000 fps

They work fine. Before I used any plated bullets, I was kind of leery of them too but Ive had no problems using mid level jacketed data.

Like other posters I use the Xtreme 124's you've already tried, however I am not pushing them to high velocity either. On the rare occasion that I want to load to +P I dip into my stash of winchester FMJ.

I like the RMR thick plates and MBC cones. (shot lots of uncoated, using the coated ones now) but none of my loads are 1200fps in 9mm. I would think 1200 would be pushing it a bit IMO.
Howver I have shot the BHN 18 MBC bullets out of my .357 at about 1250 with no issues.

I bought a box of 124gr HBFP-TP-1000ct I have had no problem with them my Glock 17 & my S&W MP shield like them. I like the thick plated, Berry's puts out good products.

I used Berry's for 2 yrs before switching to Xtreme 4 yrs ago. Berry's served me well, but XTreme's were cheaper, and my Glocks seemed to like them a little better. I tried some RMRs in 124gr back in Nov, and really liked them. Since then I have loaded 3k RMR, and really like the consistence I am getting with RMR. I have some Bayou coated bullets in 135gr to try next. I'm looking for a min Power Factor load that shoots soft, and has good long range performance for the longer shots we take in IDPA. I have tried the 147's, but they tend to drop a little too much for my liking, and the 124's are a little snappier than I like. I hope the 135gr will be a good happy medium. Lots of IDPA guys like the 135gr in 9mm.
