I’ve decided I need 9mm target gun. All informal so it doesn’t have to fit a box or power level or anything at all. I have it narrowed down to a 1911 (Kimber or Springfield likely) or the new Sig P210. Looking for opinions.

I have plenty of 9mm defensive pistols so mag capacity is a non issue.

Obviously the correct answer is to buy both but let’s just say money is a slight issue, so which one first?

SIG P210. Superb trigger, great sights, a really wonderful piece of machinery. The target version has adjustable sights, but the standard can be adjusted for windage with the rear sight, and front sights are available in various heights.

the Dan Wesson Pointman is a closer match dollar wise to the P210 so that may be the 1911 option. The CZ could be an option if the accuracy is up there. Accuracy is the main point on this gun.

I have lots of pistols in lots of calibers, this one is to try to get the best accuracy out of the 9mm.

The old P210/P49 is no slouch either, but they start at something like $2.5K on the surplus market right now.

...on my wish list, anyway.
The American P210 isn't something I'd turn my nose up at. I have a Sig Match Elite 1911 that I switch back and forth from 9mm to 38 Super. It's easily more accurate (in either caliber) than my DW Guardian 9mm but has had trigger work whereas the DW hasn't. About the same $, which is a couple hundred less than an American P210. If purely for target purposes, skip the aluminum frame 1911's.

I like my Dan Wesson Pointman 9 . If I was choosing again I would be looking at a CZ TS 2 .

P210. Best trigger of any production gun made today, IMO.

Only thing that comes close would be some of the single-action CZs/Tanfoglios, and the Beretta 92 XI SAO, but sounds like youve eliminated those already?
Pretty sure the P210 has a much lower bore axis than those anyway.
I'll find out tomorrow, picking up a P210 target my self.
It will require one heck of a fantastic trigger to top my CZ TS2O or Shadow 2 with CGW trigger.
The Dan Wesson DWX is another great option as it takes 1911 trigger parts, mine is extremely accurate.

I've had a number of accurate pistols, 1911s, FN/Browning GP, earlier S&W Performance Center, SIG X-5 and Swiss, German and American P210s, etc. The higher end CZs come highly recommended, but I have no experience with them. For a target type pistol that you know will be accurate and reliable right out of the box, I think the American SIG P210A target model is worthy of consideration.

When I heard that SIG was going to build a 210 in the US of A, I was very skeptical. I bought a new 210A Target model early on, curious as to how bad the US version would be. I was wrong. Turned out to be a precisely fitted, cleanly machined, accurate and reliable pistol. After 5 years or so, still have it, with no plans to trade or sell it.

I must admit that my friend's CZ Shadow 2 Orange is slightly more accurate and easier to target shoot than my full Cajun Gunworks custom 97 . I have handled Gray Guns Bruiser P210 and it is VERY very nice to say the least . I cannot afford one ! I am building a 9mm game gun on a new M17 320 Sig base using Gray Guns Lockwood slide bull barrel assembly and their Competition trigger and AXS Metal Grip frame . I will use LPA sights and the M17 has the slide optic cut already. Cost will be under $2500 and ifI get it done in late summer 2024 I will be happy. I bought the M17 cheaply because I am going to go with a very light crisp trigger and would only feel comfortable with the M17 manual safety also.

The American P210A is the way to go in that price range.
Probably. Note that NRA targets are pretty tight:
4.6 25 yard slow fire - 7, 8, 9 and 10 rings black.
Target No. B-16.
X ring ......................0.67 in
10 ring .....................1.51 in

So all but one of the loads in post #6 would at least touch the X ring if perfectly zeroed and all would be in the 10 ring.

I am not a bullseye shooter but have read that Accuracy X is about the only manufacturer seen at high level matches, others are gunsmith built or accurized. Problem is, their Pro Plus, listed to shoot 10 Xs (1.695") at 50 yards costs about as much as a Sig plus a SA plus a Kimber plus a down payment on something else.

Has anybody seen Ransom Rest results with a CZ?

I had a Staccato that was as a serious shooter if looking at a double stack.

Not saying it would outshoot the others, just that it’s the best I ever shot.

Between those choices I'd go with the P210. Better yet a German P210. Or better yet, have a gander at some of @bc1023 previous posts and expand your thinking (and your budget) a little (or a lot). Some very very tasty range/target 9mms out there.

Whatever you do, don't get a Kimber IMO.

Will not recommend a Kimber because I have no experience with it. My first choice would be the Springfield Armory 35 followed by the Sig....but by both when you get the chance.

The P226 in its six - inch version’s pretty slick (the legacy model, not the hyperangular overfenestrated railed monstrosities of nowadays).

The SA 35 is no target gun.

Hi Powers are have some cool history and I own several of them, but from a performance standpoint, they leave a lot to be desired by today’s standards.

i think the OP is trying to target shoot on a budget not covering any of that stuff.
If it did, the Pardini has some presence in NRA Precision.
My PPC friend wrung out a 952 but the limited availability PPC 9 was more accurate.
Well I gave him some choices on a higher budget. ;)

Actually, the Orange CZ’s are pretty close to a P210A in price.

As for the PPC, it is my preference as well, but a lot harder to find than the 952.
