Ok, I have a G19 and G26. I also have a Sig P226 and Kahr PM9. The Kahr definitely isn't a range gun. The G19 and P226 definitely can be range guns as well as HD and carry guns. The G26 is more of a carry gun.

What 9mm would you get for mostly range fun? G17? Anything else?

I'm limiting it to 9mm to keep ammo costs down.

My current 9mm pistols are: G19, G34, CZ75B. Of the three, for range duty, I really like the CZ best, followed by the 34.

The Glock 17 is pretty close to the 19, which you already have, so if you want another Glock 9mm, the 34 might be better for "variety".

Texas based STI has several models available in 9mm with fully adjustable sights. You will enjoy long range sessions with any of them. Also check out EAA Witness pistols.

I love my CZ 75B - accurate and reliable, easy and fun to shoot. I just don't see how you can go wrong with a CZ 75.

Another vote for the CZ75B as a range toy. The steel frame really make the 9mm round a pussycat.

If you only plan to shoot FMJ ammo, the EAA Witness Elite Match is very nice for under $500 with adjustable sights and a great SAO trigger, but its frame/magwell is sized for .45ACP/10mm/.38Super so there is too much free space in the mag leading to feed failures with hot JHP loads as the mag loses control of the rounds.

Also can't go wrong with a HiPower.

If you want to stay with plastic the XD Tactical is a fantastic range gun. The new S&W M&P is my favorite polymer gun, Glocks are my least favorite as they just don't fit me well.

I carried a G19 for my CCW and ended up buying a G17 for a range gun. I like it enough that I shoot the G17 a bunch now.

If that does not float your boat, then a BHP or CZ75 B. Or, if you really want to be different try a 9 MM in a 1911 pattern.

I wouldn't get a G17 unless you were interested in collecting Glock 9s. I was issued a G19 and then a G26. They were both so close size wise I turned in the G19 and got a Glock 17. For a real bargain CDNNhas Ruger P95s for $249 (plus shipping and whatever your FFL charges). You can have a new, different, 9mm ffor about $300. Yes, the Ruger is chunky but not that important in a range gun and very durable.

If you have a Glock 17, you can get a 17L slide assembly.
My first Glock was a 17L. Nice gun! I bought a standard 17 slide so I could carry it (although I don't too often). I don't know anything about the 34 (other then it fits in the ISPA box, which the 17L does not), but I'd wager that slide will fit a 17 too.
BTW, the 17L's came with the 3.5 lb trigger.

cz

Many people like the cz I can't wait to shoot one.I am going to rent a cz and a g19 before I buy and maybe an xd

Bought a G17c a couple of weeks ago. One of my best range guns. The compensated barrel counter acts some of the recoil. It is more accurate with a 147 gr bullets than the 115 gr WWB.

Not really practicle as a carry weapon.

Get a Hi-Point, shoot till it falls apart. Repeat! They are practically disposable and surprisingly accurate and dependable! Yeah, they are cheap and ugly but this is for fun, right? :p
