I'm looking to come up with a 9mm Luger rifle on the cheap to use with my plethora of 9mm ammo when I wanna plink a little with more than a 22lr.

I see as I have two real options here for a sub $400 9mm Luger rifle with a fixed breech. No interest in a blowback rifle due to inability to use my rather ample supply of +P ammo.

1) Buy a break action type rifle, most likely in 223 since I also like that caliber, and pick up a barrel and have someone machine and attach whatever is needed to fit said barrel in said break action.

2) Buy a break action type shotgun, buy a barrel that's slightly oversized and have someone take off just enough to make it squeeze in tight and stick out the other end. Thread the other end just deep enough I can spin a nut down right against the front of the barrel, to absolutely clamp it in the barrel. This is attractive because I think it'd be way cheaper, and be easier to add another caliber later. Thoughts on this?

Thanks ladies and gents.

Hm...I'm leery of any blow back with +P. But maybe.

Regardless, I'm really not a fan of their magazine disconnect safeties. :banghead: Or having to admit I own a HiPoint. :neener: I was pretty happy when I got rid of the HiPoint I did have for awhile, didn't suit my fancy.

I see the single shot shotguns I'm thinking of for $116+tax local, and I can find barrels that are super close fits for around $40+shipping, and I know people with threaders...so that route could easily be shy of $200. Which would be swell.

I'm not expecting stellar accuracy. Just wanna try using a scope with a 9mm and a little longer barrel. And to have something a little special.

12ga 9mmx19 adapters have been made in the past.
Could also do it for 20ga. Probably not enough diameter in a .410 chamber to do that safely.

In theory you could get a 9mm barrel blank and have a good gunsmith make one that
would fit full-length in a single-shot breakopen action.

My thought would be to simply glue that into the barrel with a glue you could degrade with heat. In that way, it would assume a fixed geometry but you could break the bond with heat if you needed to remove it. Firing it as a single-shot won;t generate enough heat to do that.

Trickly part would be to get the extraction sorted out. The adapters use a rod to push out the empties. That would get old really fast in a full-length barrel setup.

"break action 9mm", I have dreamed of one of these for a looong time. Seems to be the obvious that gets ignored.

And for the hi point and +p? The hi point will take a LOT more pressure than you can shove in a 9mm case. I have personally pushed a 115gr bullet to 1800fps out of a hi point 995 (old style). If you don't like the hi point, then that's fine... Just don't spread lies.

First and best option: Hi Point 995. Way under $400.

Next best option: Kel Tec Sub 2000. Might break that $400 mark, but probably worth it if you can find one. By worth it, I mean you can re-sell it in the future for the same price you bought it.

Third Option: If you already have a break action shotgun, Shortlane's 8 inch 9mm adapter is $100. MCAce can make an 18 inch long adapter for $165 shipping included. Shortlane will have it to you within a week, MCAce might take 2-3 months. If you don't have a break action shotgun, you're better off not bothering with this.

To clarify, I'm not worried about hurting the HiPoint with +p or even +p+ but I know on other blowback carbines like the JRC carbines that +p makes the bolt cycle so fast you can blow a case apart because the pressure hadn't dropped low enough by the time of extraction. I saw pictures of shells that had been balloned at the base due to that so I'd always staying away from combining +p and blowback might be a swell idea. Pardon my misunderstanding of the data.

Does anyone positively know that the current production HiPoints 9mm carbines DO NOT have a magazine disconnect? I'm having trouble getting a solid on this around the interwebs.

While I'm on the topic of the 9mm HiPoint Carbine, is $280 out the door a pretty decent price? It seems like it is from looking around online but y'all likely have a better overview of the prices.

A shop local to me stocks HP carbines for 320-335 depending on configuration. I'd love to pick one up for 280 new. I'm a big fan of pistol caliber carbines in general and the HP does a great job fulfilling its intended use.

Try Mike @ Red Barn Guns, prices are pre-taxed (6.7% tax for AZ residents only) and shipping to you FFL is actual cost of shipping.

His # is 520-868-0055. Prices are very cheap.

Oct 2015 prices were: 995TS $238, 4095TS $248, and 4595TS $265

$280 not including FFL transfer and shipping? I'd say if the total price is $350 or less, it's a good buy.
$280 including everything, that's my out the door price. I'll have to have to look in to the mag safety thing more and see if I think it's worth messing with.

Thanks everyone!

How the "Exclusive Extractor-Grip feature for easy shell removal" works? I have couple 7.62x39 SKS barrels sitting there, was thinking of making a single shot break barrel from shotgun but not sure how to deal with extractor.

Sorry, I have no idea

I have a couple 12ga to 20ga adapters for a coach SxS and don't have any experience with those. I should have said that.

I've considered buying doing one of the 12 or 20ga to 9mm adapters which is what caught my attention to the thread.

If $400 is your limit, you might have a difficult time finding what you are looking for, short of using a chamber adapter in a shotgun.

However, a good alternative might be a Handi-rifle in .357 Mag. You can shoot .38 Spl, which gives similar ballistics to the 9mm, but gives you the option to go to the higher-velocity Magnum ammo if wanted.

While a 9mm barrel is a possibility in the Handi-Rifle, it would be a custom proposition, and would likely exceed your budget.

I cruised around You Tube a bit yesterday and the best of the shotgun to pistol caliber videos I saw were done by ZRUS ( assuming you can stand the Zombie hook up) actually fairly reasonable accuracy from some of the rifled adaptors and pretty abysmal shooting with smooth bores but honest about it.

I looked at a bunch and saw a .410 /9x19 smooth bore, but it was not even as accurate as Yankee Doodle's Brown Bess. Dos seem that if one could have a smooth bore 9x19 adaptor for a .410 that one could have a rifled one of whatever length.

Some of the ones ZRUS seemed to have the best luck with were 10 inches long and he used them in a H&R singles shot that was made as a deer gun that had real sights and not just a front bead.
