9mm, Which powder would you choose?

I have used Longshot with 124gr SPEER GDHP. It gives great accuracy, great velocity. But, as with HS-6 you need to load them from Mid to High to get them to perform. It gives a pretty good bang. I think it is a good 9mm powder to get near factory load specs.

Now that I am out of W231, I have to use my last pound of Longshot to load my range plinking ammo, times are getting rough. It wont last long, you have to load medium to high loads to perform, which means more powder per round. When will it ever end..................

You can't find any right now but I use Unique...*surprise* I use Unique for everything. :)

My last hot 9mm loads with Unique are so clean I shot 300 rounds and just wiped the gun off and put it away - with plated bullets and a hot load the only residue is a tiny bit of black soot 'round the muzzle and a little near the ejection port. I really like Unique for 9mm, .380, and .32 as well as .38 Special and .357 magnum.

VooDoo

I generally use Unique for all my general purpose handgun loads, too. In fact, I use the same charge of 6.9 gr under 200 gr lswcs in 45 acp and under 158 lswcs in 357 magnum.I set that powder measure and haven't touched it in several years, and it covers 95% of my handgun loads.

No one has mentioned it but you have to use a load that cycles the action of your 9mm. My 9mm's are a CZ75BD and PT92AF which will cycle anything I feed them if I use near max loads. I have no experience with Bullseye but I have used Unique, AA7 and HS6 in 9mm. I'd put together about 20-30 rounds of each powder with different bullet weights to verify the action cycles then determine which combination gives the best accuracy.

You Unigue guys are boring.

What do you load in 9mm? "Unique"

What do you load in 40SW? "Unique"

What do you load in 45? "Unique"

What do you load in 50 cal? "Unique"

:banghead:

I took 9mm 115 gr FMJ + 6.5 gr HS6 = 1147 fps to the IDPA Nationals in 2003.
I didn't win, it MUST have been the powder.

HS6 is a ball process powder and meters great. It is fairly slow burning and shoots "dirty" when loaded much below maximum. So clean the gun.

Of the powders you list (and I have both Unique and Bullseye), I use Unique with 124gr Plated round nose, Rainier, Berry's, and lately Xtreme.
4.5 - 4.7gr @ 1.140" gives me 1,034 - 1,086 fps out of my Glock 19.

My favorite load is 4.3gr of W231, but it is hard to come by these days.

Unique doesn't meter that well, but it doesn't seem to matter. Good accuracy.

I'd use up that Bullseye in 380, 38 special, and 45 ACP.

As always, work up to any loads above and verify "internet" reloading data.

9mm powder

I've used Unique for 20 years while reloading 357,44 and 9mm. Burns clean and plenty of firepower. As always make your own decision and refer to reloading manual until YOU get what you like. The reason I use Unique is that I reload shot shells with Unique and I bought 8lbs years ago.

Sincerely,

Rudy

I have used powders as fast as N310 and as slow as HS-7.

Bullseye will work as well as HS-6. If you don't like the HS-6 use it, as it will be gone faster than the BS, because you will need a higher charge weight with HS-6 to give the same velocity.

I was able to score an eight pound jug of Unique and that is all I use for 9mm and .45. It has been good to me for many years. Winchester 231 would be my other choice. I do have a one pound can that remains unopened. I'll probably be dead before I use up the Unique.

After my W231 ran out, I found #1 of Longshot. This week I actually found #6 of Alliant Power Pistol, so this will be my plinking powder for at least a good year. Till looking for CFE pistol.:what::):neener:

That's what I use for 9mm

If all I could get was Bullseye or Unique, I think I'd be okay with that. I could load every pistol cartridge with either one, including the magnums.

I'd be happier if I could also snag some Varget or 4895...
