A bag by any other name...still can hold a gun

I bought a blue nylon covered plastic sport water bottle. The cover has a zipper on the side. About $2-$3 at K-Mart, etc. I slashed an opening in the plastic bottle, just under the zipper opening, and a Walther PPK or snub S&W J-frame will fit. Not the fastest of draws, but it served to look like something else when dressed for the beach or summer, in general. It is especially non-descript lying on a car seat, and even weighs about the same as if it had water in it. You might even be able to rig it up so that it DID have some water in it up at the nozzle, for an even better deception.

Great thread, lots of practical knowledge. I would only add that every thrift store/Goodwill/pawn shop has absolute stuffed bins full of every imaginable pouch, bag, case, container, haversack, daypack, tool pack, camera bag, fanny pack and hip bag imaginable. In all colors and fabrics. And they cost at most a buck or two to buy and try out in various discreet CCW modes.

Possession of a firearm is a crime in every state if you are a felon or a person prohibited by state law or if you are carrying concealed without a license..

Driving a car upon public highways is a crime every state if you are not in possession of a valid driving license. Does that give the authority to the police to pull over every driver they see to check if they are in possession of a valid driving license?

If an officer said to me "I suspect you're carrying a firearm", my reply would be "Just one; it's kinda hot today."

They only stopped (as in talked) me, and yeah, I let them search my bag/my person as I had nothing to hide: if they wanted to smell my gym clothes then so be it.
At the time I thought it was better than poking the bear. When they saw I had nothing, they tried to play the tough guy and gave me a lecture about what I can wear on my person and left =/

You know.. the perfect thing to say as you were walking off after they had fondled your dirty clothes would be to look sympathetically in their eyes and suggest...
"You fellers may wanna stop by the pharmacist and pick up some cream after work; there's a pretty good chance you may have just gotten a case of the crabs."

You can put a handgun in a paper bag - if you can find a paper bag any more - for quick concealment for short times and distances. There may be a "forty" inside, but it ain't a bottle. ;)

Who said anything about the legality of police stopping anyone?:scrutiny:
Not me.

Your comparison of possession of firearms vs driving a car is a poor analogy....there are distinct differences.

I usually carry my Filson satchel with me, and usually keep a gun in it.

Not the quickest thing to deploy, but certainly covert.

After they finished finding but dirty clothes, I thing I would have made sure I had names and badge numbers to file a complaint. It may not have been a big deal in this case, but if these LEO's are making a practice of it, something belongs in their jacket or at least a supervisory inquiry to make sure they understand the 4th A.

I am a firm believer in not arguing on the spot - comply with all requests - then take your complaint up with the dept - speak directly to thier Sarge or Lt.

"Unless you are prohibited by law from carrying a firearm (felon or no CC license) why would deception be necessary?" Simple logic. If it doesn't look like it might be a carrying a firearm, it's definitely concealed. Do you need any other reasoning than that?

Argue no, but express that you are complying under protest or it makes it harder to compain.
