I recently bought a 1973 - 12GA Pedersen Custom Guns Model 1000 Grade I Field Gun. The gun has 28" barrels choked MOD / FULL.

From 1973 to 1975, O.F. Mossberg & Sons imported a barrel and receiver from Beretta (BL-4) "in the white" and then added their own engraving and wood. These were supposed to be "custom guns at afforable prices", after two years, the prices were up near what the "high end" guns of the day were selling for and they couldn't compete....

I bought this one on-line from England and had it imported back here to the states, since I've had it back, I've found out that this gun was engraved by the master gun engraver, Angelo Bee.

How do you do that? (Import from the UK?)

It was actually a fairly easy process, other than it took a few weeks...

First, I found the gun that I was looking for, agreed on a price and I put a small refundable deposit on the gun: http://www.londongunroom.com

STEP A: Fill out a BATFE form 6 and have your friendly local shop submit it for you, I received it back "approved", five weeks to the day from when the BATFE got it.

STEP B: Contacted an exporter in the UK (recommended by the seller) & then I send a copy of the approved import license, the exporter then applied for an EXPORT license from the British Government..... So far, cost still $0.00

STEP B1: Two weeks after I submitted papwerwork for the EXPORT license, I was notified it was denied because my "End Users Undertaking" was not submitted on company letterhead. Re-submitted and two weeks later I was notified my export license was approved. So far, cost still $0.00

STEP C: Wire transferred the remaining funds for the shotgun to the seller as well as the fees for export, shipping & handling (£210, $341 at today's rates).

STEP D: The shotgun was shipped via Air Freight to my local International airport (Hartford)

The whole process took about 11 weeks from initial e-mail until I picked up the shotgun. Because this shotgun was "under-valued" on the British market I think I did pretty well even with the additional $350 for shipping, I'm still well below "Blue Book" and that's on a standard gun, not one that was engraved by Angelo Bee....

I got a quote from Griffin & Howe out of New York for a little more than $600 to have them export it, based on the amount of paperwork involved I don't think they could have offered anything that I didn't do, other than they may have been able to shave a few weeks off of the process by getting the paperwork right the first time....

My 12-year-old son went on his first pheasant hunt this past Saturday with the Pedersen.

The hunt was put on by the state and was open to any kids that completed the Hunter's Safety course this year.

The hunt was at the Bozrah Rod & Gun Club in Lebanon, CT and dogs were provided by the American Hunting Dog Club... The fields were "stocked" before the kids went out.

We were teamed up with a 1 year old Brittany pup that was trying her best, she had a couple "misses" but finally got on point and the birds were flushed...

A great time was had by all.........
