One will forgive the inclusion of the "Tanker" but doggone it... it's a carbine that should have been built! Someday, I'll get around to finishing my "Bushmaster" to go with these stumpies.

I gave up on my last Carcano as a useless money pit since getting the missing parts would have rendered it "reverse valuable" in that the value of the "whole" was going to be less than the sum of its purchased parts...

Good riddance - sold it on to be someone else's "project".

Then this sweet little 91/28 fell into my lap.

Cute bugger!

Looks like a youth rifle in a way and feels so even more.

A question though. These do not have a buttstock stowaway hidey-hole, and the cleaning rod is threaded at the non-patch end as well as being too short to use independently - can anyone give me any insight into how it is used? Is there a handle that accompanies these somehow?

Many of those short rods are meant to be screwed together by a few guys to make one rod the right length. At least that's how a Mauser worked.

Very nice collection! That make and model is the 2nd from the bottom?

It's a Mauser in the form of a .308 FR-8 from Spain.

A quick blurb: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FR8

.308, wire-cutting flash hider, cleaning kit in the faux gas tube below the barrel, nice side-sling option and a neat rotating aperture rear sight... Unless you're shooting into the rising or setting sun - Yikes!

Unfortunately, this one has a committed eyeley on one end with the male-threads at the other.

Shared rods are cool though.

That's a mighty fine collection you have there, Todd.
And completely un intended.

The aesthetics of a proper Carbine just speak to me and they seem to have amassed themselves.

Kinda like my "thing" for Riot Guns and to a lesser degree Trench Guns.

All you are missing is an Arisaka Type 38 carbine and a Type 44 Calvary carbine. I understand your weakness for carbines as I share the affliction.
Well now, there ya go - I never even thought about Japanese carbines.

In hind sight - now that I've backed into a Carbine "collection", letting the Krag and Trap-Door carbines go was a mistake.

I guess I'll slide my sweet parade-grade Russian SKS into the pile to offset some of the remorse.

Sweet collection of short rifles you've got there! Definitely a Japanese Type 38 carbine would round out your collection nicely.

.
Outstanding!

Carbines have always made sense to me. But for a CZ 527 and a Ruger M77 Scout both in .30 caliber, all of my carbines are levers.

As my bolt collection is a young one, this thread may serve as a Guide to Spending My Future Firearms Funding. :D

Also a Mannlicher M1895, which are probably still pretty cheap. I got one from J&GSales 4 years ago for $150 + $15 shipping that came with matching bayonet. Picked up 4 of the en bloc clips for $20. The downside is the ammo is hard to find. Very nifty little rifle though; straight pull, en bloc clip fed, the clips I got had the Nazi Eagle on them.

I do regret not having a little 7mm Spanish Cav carbine anymore. That thing let you know when it went off, but it was cute. I never could bring myself to even tape up the noisy little carbine ring on a bar, never mind remove it as some friend suggested.

Great little truck gun.

Had to look that one up.

Man, but I'd like to stumble on one of those little beauties.

I can only imaging your regret at selling it. It trips so many triggers for me; cavalry ring, Mannlicher stock, carbine, side sling and a great round... What's not to like?

Then too, the romantic aspect of likely having been hauled around in the Spanish Civil War. Evokes images of banners, International Brigades with their intrigues, dusky maidens, "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and the like.

Great post' and pics..Thought I hit the "quote" button.. Oh well..

I don't have the best camera in the world.. So..
I can only describe.

Top is the Argentine 1891.. Mint. everything except the bayonet.
Actually, it is chambered for the Belgian Mauser cartridge.
Argentina bought them like wild fire. Hence the confusion.
Plenty of ball to have fun with. (same goes for the rest)
And I do load for hunting.

Sweed with a 1 prick on the "bore" slice of the pie. Swedish Mausers folks will know what this means.
Carl Gustaf marked 1912.

Two mighty Mosins.. The one with the aftermarket ATI stock, I'm playing with..
Not sure yet to cut off the bbl bands.

The one that sports wood is a de-milled sniper, so, I left it like it is.

Then the 1901 mauser 7mm ("Fabrica De Armas Oviedo 1901")
may have the order mixed up a little, but you know waht you are looking at.

The great one is a "project" as funds allow.
8X57 Belgiun FN.. She is a beauty as well...

I have several more mil-surp. Just not here to take a pic.

Plenty of modern stuff too..

Nice lineup! for some reason I've always been enamored of stubby rifles. That 2nd from the bottom is a beauty! Never heard of it but I want one now. :D
