So I'm a healthcare worker and I occasionally have students that do clinical rotations at my facility and I'm occasionally responsible for being their clinical instructor and mentoring them into the field.

I had a student a couple years ago, nice kid very smart, very respectful. He dropped himself into South America and traveled and hiked many countries for several months without knowing any Spanish before he started grad school, so I knew he was a little adventurous and open minded.

He had never shot a gun before but I could tell he trusted and respected me so I informed him of my hobby and invited him to the range one night.

Haven't talked to him since he finished his internship, but ran in to him today at a continuing education course as he is now working full time.

He immediately showed me a video of his recent birthday gift from his girlfriend... It was a range session at a local Miami gun range that specializes in experiences shooting a variety of full auto machine guns and sub machine guns and she bought him a full auto package as a birthday gift. I think this might be a win!

It indeed sounds like a win. My sister in law has been around guns all her life but never had any interest in them. So one day she went shooting with me, my wife, son, and his girlfriend. I was shooting my 9mm and asked her if she wanted to shoot it. She was a little bit afraid at first, but after the first couple of rounds she got a real big smile and said how cool it was. I didn't get to shoot it anymore that day and she finished off the 150 rounds I brought, and now we have a extra shooter almost every time we go. To me there is nothing more satisfying than exposing someone to firearms and even better when they like it.:D

Best way to convert someone is let them shoot. My wife of 30yrs never minded me shooting, just never had much interest. Couple years ago she decided to take a NRA Basic Pistol course offered by the club I belong to. In doing so I bought her a Ruger 22/45 MKIII for the course so she had a dedicated gun for herself (and I always wanted one). Then on the last day of the course I was at the club shooting a Rifle siloutte match that I talked her into shooting the last relay of .22lr She actually shot 1 of 12 perfect scores for the season and was hooked. That was 3 years ago, this year I bought and set up a dedicated 10/22 Classic V for her. She now owns the pistol and rifle I bought her plus several guns inherited from he dad including a 20ga OH which she wants to try trap shooting with. Once the seed is planted...

When I got married my wife didn't like dogs or guns. Fast forward 25 years and we have two dogs and his & her gun safes. It can take a while, but persistence pays off!
