My family came with me to an annual shoot that I used to participate in every year. It was a multi station for fun shoot held around my birthday. Well, as we were walking around after completing all stations my dad noticed an older gentleman dressed in cowboy duds. My dad being dressed in his every day clothes (sass legal) started a conversation with this fellow. As it would turn out that fellow was Coyote Capp of Cowboy action fame. As they conversed the topic of the 1887 came up. Mr.Capp happened to have a couple of his 1887s with his two round feed system for sale. He told us about how there was a mistake and the receivers were mismarked as limited edition. My dad bought it on the spot. It was the coolest interaction I've seen between my dad and another person. Well when dad passed and my shotgun choice came there was only one clear choice.

That is one heck of a gun. The first one I've seen. Your a very lucky guy.

Great score bud. I always thought I wanted an 87, but with a 30" barrel so I could hunt with it. Unfortunately I've never been able to find one that I could afford. Hope yours shoots well for you, let us know how it does.

Neat inheritance, WH2020! I got to test fire one the shop was buying, definitely one action that needs working with vigor!

As you said there really was only one choice when it came to selecting a shotgun and the Model 1887 was it!

There were a couple places that would modify existing 87s to the drop two but as far as I know Coyote Capp had his made in Japan (I think) with his own modification built in. I maybe wrong it has been a while since I looked the information up.

Red China.

I read several items on his and other 1887s. There are three ways discussed to set up an 87 for the unnatural act of CAS shotgunning. One is dangerous, CC is naturally proud of his but says the other system works within its limitations.

I honestly haven't used the feature. I just loaded the tube and chamber eased the hammer down (very carefully and usually on the outside balcony) and put it out of sight. I have taken a couple squirrels out that were in the bird feeders. I plan on shooting the Dickens out of it this coming summer. I will work with it then.
