I've always wanted a 4 inch Model 29 to go with my long barreled versions, and I finally got my grubby fingers on a super clean 29-2.

I don't see how I've gotten along without a 4 inch gun for so long. With my reloads, it is very accurate and the recoil isn't as bad as I expected from a shorter barrel. You just have to let it roll up and not fight it. I will say the hot stuff is unpleasant though. It is a heavy, but balanced gun that I can actually shoot one handed, something I can't do with my 8 inch 29.

I've also been chasing some old model Rugers lately, and came across this unconverted gem.

I've had a few Ruger handguns here and there, but the only one I ever really liked was an old Super Black Hawk, which I had sold off in hard times. I had never owned a Single Six and wasn't interested in one until a few months ago when I shot a friend's. I really liked it, and added it to the list. I guess as is normal, it prefers the .22 mags, but shoots the long rifle stuff well enough for my purposes. I don't think the magnum cylinder had ever been shot, as it was nearly stuffed full of red fuzz from the bag. Once I cleaned it, there was virtually no wear at all on the cylinder.

My other guns will be jealous, as these will get some serious range time I'm sure.

Looks you did really well with both guns; especially the bluing on that Model 29. Great job with the photos too. Enjoy.

Thanks! Not enhanced, just cropped a bit. It did take about five tries to get the gun positioned so it reflected the light just right though. I love blued guns, to me they are the way a gun should look and feel - super slick. It makes me sad to go into gun stores these days and see very little in the way of attractive blued guns.

Guess I'll just keep on searching for the older ones.

Great guns and pics! The 29 is a gem.....P&R, RR-WO, TT,TH. A Classic!

Love 'em'. How many hours have you spent inspecting them in detail and cleaning an polishing? If I got them it would be alot of time. Looks like you did good.

That's a nice 29 you picked up. I have a love-hate relationship
with 29's. I love to handle them and look at them, and shooting
them with reduced loads is fun. But shooting full house magnum
loads is a true "pain". I use my Super Blackhawk for that.
But I doubt if I could have passed that one up if it came my way
with a decent price on it's head.

Beautiful picture of a gorgeous gun !!
