I've always wanted a 4 inch Model 29 to go with my long barreled versions, and I finally got my grubby fingers on a super clean 29-2.
I don't see how I've gotten along without a 4 inch gun for so long. With my reloads, it is very accurate and the recoil isn't as bad as I expected from a shorter barrel. You just have to let it roll up and not fight it. I will say the hot stuff is unpleasant though. It is a heavy, but balanced gun that I can actually shoot one handed, something I can't do with my 8 inch 29.
I've also been chasing some old model Rugers lately, and came across this unconverted gem.
I've had a few Ruger handguns here and there, but the only one I ever really liked was an old Super Black Hawk, which I had sold off in hard times. I had never owned a Single Six and wasn't interested in one until a few months ago when I shot a friend's. I really liked it, and added it to the list. I guess as is normal, it prefers the .22 mags, but shoots the long rifle stuff well enough for my purposes. I don't think the magnum cylinder had ever been shot, as it was nearly stuffed full of red fuzz from the bag. Once I cleaned it, there was virtually no wear at all on the cylinder.
My other guns will be jealous, as these will get some serious range time I'm sure.
