I am getting back into firearms and with ammo being so high im thinking of checking out some online stores. The main problem for me is that I have never bought ammo online. I assume they will send it to my house "Oregon". I will be purchasing a 9MM in the future. I would like to buy a reputable place and want to spend $100 to $200. I don't want junk ammo, but the cheaper the better. I wouldn't know if something was good or bad. I have only bought the Walmart stuff. I plan to join a gun club, and want to practice there. Should i just go to Walmart, or will Online work for me. Thanks for your time and suggestions.

SG Ammo has been very good to deal with for me, but I've also gotten good service from Midway and Natchez too. Look around, most well known dealers are pretty decent to deal with IME.

http://www.sgammo.

I would try to order by the case quantity if you can as you'll generally get an unopened factory case that way, which ships and stores quite well.

But the blasted hazardous shipping fees...ouch. If I was you I would speed up your plan on joining a range and finding buddies so you can get together and do a bulk shipment.

AND get into reloading........ Oregon has a smelter so your cast bullets could be within driving range.

Heard a lot of good things about Freedom Munitions. They make new ammo, and remanufactured at a discounted rate. Good luck!

Only hazmat fees I've ever had have been on powder/primers for reloading. Ammo doesn't have the hazmat fees. So ordering online is the most cost effective way to buy ammunition. Sportsmansguide even had a reduced or free shipping coupon recently - and it applied for ammo too.

As to the OP question about ordering ammo online, a quick list of companies I've had good dealings with are copes distributing, midway, natchez, widener's, sportsmansguide, AIM surplus, dph arms, sgammo, jgsales, etc. Buying ammo by the case is usually the most cost effective. :)

No Haz Mat on ammo, and even with the shipping fees, I come out far ahead purchasing online rather than locally.

Check out the local gun shows, that's where you can get the best deals.

CollectorsWest is a gun show organizer in your area. Check them out.

I've used ammunitiontogo.com and Palmetto State Armory many times and have been satisfied with the ammo, prices, and service.

I've also bought ammo from Streicher's and Kiesler's but they may not sell to you if you're not LE.

Is an adult signature required for delivery? I work all day, and having it delivered to my office would get me fired. I live in a small town so having it sit on my doorstep until I get home wouldn't be a big risk.

I've been thinking about ordering online also.

460Kodiak - it depends on the company. Some require an adult signature, some don't. Others only require an adult signature if over a certain dollar amount. The information is usually found in the shipping policies of whichever company(ies) you order from.

The gunbot suggestion is a good one; I check there and ammoseek.com. I wouldn't buy the reloaded or "remanufactured" ammo, but beyond that I buy from whoever I find and have yet to have a bad experience from any of them.

When I do buy factory ammo, it is always on line. There is no hazmat fee for ammo and a definite savings over buying at my local stores.

I use ammoman.com for all my purchases. they update me when new shipments come in and all prices include shipping. my buddy swears by ammofast.com, but their prices always seem slighty higher.

Before the shortage, I would buy 9mm from Sportman's Guide. Their prices were competitive and every 6 weeks or so they offered free shipping. Yes, ammo too. So, I'd order 6 weeks of my needs with free shipping and no signature required.

When the shortage hit, I decided to reload for 9mm since it was the only way to get some. Now that I am set up for 9mm I haven't even checked prices or availability on 9mm from them. Brand names, too, not unknown companies. It worked well and they are a reputable company.

One time, 2 years ago, it took too long for a delivery. When I checked the tracking it said it was delivered several days before. I never got it. Wrong house? Delivery guy took it? A local stumbled upon it? Who knows but all I know is it was shown as delivered and I never got it. I emailed them and told them the same thing. It was a $200 order. The next day I received an email that they will reship it. I told them to ship to the main hub and they did. No questions asked. That earned my respect for them as a company. I still order from them but I don't buy any more ammo since I reload everything now.

Hope you guys can help with a question. I went to Bunbot.com and i found some cartridges. But I don't know if its safe to buy from online . For example here is a page i found http://www.classicfirearms.com/ammunition/wolf9mm500 . Lets say i wanted to buy from them. How do i find out if there really reputable. I now Wolf isn't probably not the greatest, and you can't reload, but im just looking around now. I went to walmart today just for fun and they didn't even have 9mm ammo left. Thanks for any help guys. Im really want to get back into firearms, but the ammo is just crazy, As you all know.

chetrogers - I've ordered from classic a few times before and have always got what I ordered and good customer service. Granted it has been about 5 years since I ordered from them - but no complaints with any of my orders from them.

Hopefully others that have ordered from them more recently than me will chime in. :)

But I don't know if its safe to buy from online

Online is never as safe as standing at a cash register with greenbacks in hand...but most credit and debit card issuers protect you from fraud or dissatisfaction after the purchase.

But, if you stick to the big ammo dealers your exposure will be decreased compared to an unknown amateur selling on Armslist or the like.

If you are still concerned, pick up a pre-paid debit card from WalMart and fill it the day you are making an online purchase, so that your exposure is limited to the cash value of the card only.

Cabela's ships UPS and they just leave it at my door. I buy lots of ammo online and have never had any issues as most retailers sell name brand ammo at prices lower than local retailers. Just be sure to verify the shipping charges because sometimes they can be outrageous.

Cabela's is at least A company that i know is big, I might buy from them. They have some 2 different boxes that im checking out, but i don't know if anyone know if one is better then the other. For cheap plinking

PMC® Bronze 9mm 115 Grain FMJ
Or
Federal American Eagle Pistol Ammo

Thanks for any info.
