54CF8825-57E2-48FC-9599-C87369D41178.jpeg Good Morning out there! Like many of you, I’ve found myself w/way too much time on my hands this past year. This is a hybrid post: air rifle/22rf. I’m plagued w/ yard rats ( in my case, nightly raiding my Sunflower seed bird feeders. Colibri sans powder 22rf all but unavailable...& too loud for night-time rat-work. Pellet rifle too loud also.

Began experimenting w/22 pellets seated in a 22rf case. I’ve finally worked out the kinks in my project: I pull the 22 bullet, dump the powder, camfer the inside of the case mouth, roll the lower pellet bearing surface across the now sharp rf case mouth to remove said bearing surface and aid in the seating process, use a modified pair of pliers to seat the pellet...whisper quiet (as in the firing pin strike only)... and quite accurate at about 5 yards!

So far I’ve been using 22 Short to use in my Marlin 25S pump rifle. So far about 50 fired w/none stuck in the barrel. I plan to make some long rifle rounds for use in my Ruger 10/22 w/ red dot sight (will have to manually recycle the bolt).

So far, I most like using the plastic-skirted lead free pellets (as shown in the pic.).

Any thoughts out there?

My idle mind would be building a contraption to launch a rat from a clay thrower straight into a brick wall.
WestKentucky, I’m afraid rats are ‘bout as smart as their bushy-tailed brethren...there there are MANY YouTube videos under the heading: Squirrel Obstacle Course...watching these caused me to adopt a live-and-let-live truce with these brazen Sunflower seed denizens...besides, Wife and Grandkids ABSOLUTELY refuse to eat’m...

I definitely want you to get something like a Sightmark Wraith and make videos of your hunts!
Double...I’ve been “pasteing peanut butter on the rain cover to the Sunflower seed bird feeder for 3 nights now...getting them accustomed to coming in at night. Interior Sun Room light will give me “shooting illumination. I guess I could set up one of my game cameras with a pressure switch...

I'm thinking peanut butter surrounded by sticky trap atop a 3lb canister of tannerite.

Love the glass! I’ve got a .177, .22 and .25. All are break barrel and more accurate than I am!
All have good glass, but not Hawke quality. Also have a Gamo Viper Express shotshell break barrel as well as a few pellet pistols/revolvers. Newest is an “as new in the box” Crosman 38T in .177 (1970). All are rather loud during daylight an as much so at night. Especially with multiple shots.

Wondering if a red dot sight would tolerate the 2-stage airgun recoil...

I dont know, but they surely will withstand an airgun....it they can withstand riding on thr slide of a pistol.?

I have just started revisiting airguns after a 45 year break.

My Hatsun 95 arrived with a crappy blurry scope. The folks at www.airgundepot helped me choose and upgrade to the Hawke.

Interesting project. I am far enough from my neighbors that a pellet gun or 22 CB Longs won't bother anyone. Let us know how this all works out.

I’ve Red that because al air rifle produces a reciprocal kind of recoil that a CF scope will quickly be beaten out of zero. I don’t know this from experience tho... the opposite isn’t supposed to be true.

HAWKE’s are made for air rifles correct?
