I had my gallbladder taken out a few weeks ago ( the hard way ), my lungs are shot,
but I did get out to the shed to say at least I went hunting this year.
When I went in for lunch, my wife said she saw a little deer out the kitchen window.
Basically the same view I have out the shed.
She saw one more deer than I did !!!

Basically my year as well. I busted up my ankle in July and had a wicked round of pneumonia. Still waiting to get other issues resolved before they will fix my ankle. I shot a big doe from my garage window with a crossbow earlier. But I was able to take my son and let him shoot his first deer at 8 years old! Take care of yourself, hopefully both of us will be back at it better than ever next year.

My neighbor saw the smoke coming from the stove and knew what I was up to.
He came over to offer help me get it down off the hill if I got one. :D
It can happen.

I'm glad you can still find a way to hunt. Next time make sure you leave a rifle in the kitchen for you wife too!

It's really not a bad spot. The deer get pushed back in in this long 300 yd wide tract of woods with all the BIG HUNTERS up at the field edges in their tree shacks. You should see the one. It looks like a cabin on stilts.
I'd be in the kitchen if we didn't have the little doggie. He doesn't like the guns, I think they are a lot louder for him than it is for humans.
Well, I'll be back out there Monday to wake up the mice.

A big old pileated woodpecker was out back and then 20 wild turkeys marched single file only 40 yds in front of me. It was like the Thanksgiving Day Macy's Parade for awhile there.
I didn't burn the stove so I quit a little early. The turkeys were a good show.
I was tempted but I thought if they were walking through all mellow maybe some deer would be around too. I guess I "roughed it" for 3 or so hours. LOL

I am really glad you are feeling like trying the hunt! Cool your friend made the offer for the "grunt work"! thats a buddy!

Your post reminded of my friends" last day-last chance" hunt from 20 years ago. He woke up early , it was nearly 20 degrees and spitting snow. He made coffee and just looked across the field and there was a nice 8 pointer about 150 yds out. He slid the patio door open...BOOM! ...His wife freaked out! Finished his coffee, got the tractor, got to work on the field dressing. Said it was his easiest hunt ever. Wife said it was his LAST hunt from the kitchen!

Great photos of your place. Stick with it. You'll have vineson soon.

I like your story Mark. Well today was the last day for rifle here. It is 15 degrees out there. Saw a couple deer but nothing really to shoot the other day. I have some deer in the freezer and if my buddy gets one in flintlock muzzleloader after Christmas, he'll split it with me. I don't have to do anything but pay the cost of processing. He does the rest. Can't beat that.
I haven't starved yet tho.

Glad your doing OK. I had some kidney cancer removed myself last month and have been doing more indoor stuff too. My hunting buddy had shoulder surgery a month before I went in so we are both out this year.

jmorris - wishing you and your bud a happy and healthy new year. Enjoy the day we have been given.

I always hate to hear about all the health problems we older fellows have. I never understood in my young days the old quote? Getting old an't for sissies. I do now.;)

Well, awesome news for me. Called my buddy a bit ago and he told me he got a nice 5 1/2 yr old 8 pointer yesterday and it's mountworthy.
He said " I got some deer for you " I said don't forget I pay for processing " and he said ...
:D " No .. Merry Christmas! " :D

There's squirrels galore out there at the bird feeder. Another friend of mine is bringing out and leaving the Gamo whisper for me to sight in for him. LOL
It will end up me buying it. I just know it. Haven't eaten squirrel since my early 20's. I guess I shouldn't waste them.
