A few pics from the Ataturk Military Museum in Istanbul

Took these pics back last year, never got around to posting them. If you're ever in Istanbul, the museum is definitely worth a look-see. Here are a few of my favorite pics. Enjoy!

Dont think it's water cooled but a bullet husher maybe, but why the dodad in the top of the action?

The 1866 looks like it has a version of John Brownings original fully automatic conversion of a lever action rifle.
The barrel jacket appears to be used for water cooling purposes.

Is that a Star Model 28 pistol sitting to the left of the beautiful, early, German G-3 rifle?
I haven't seen one of those pistols in about twenty years!
The horse figurine is gorgeous too.

I particularly liked the variety of pistols used in Mahmut Pasha's assasination. Apparently standardized gear was not the plan of the day. I'm still a bit unclear as to who it was who killed the guy; Wiki only mentions that he was waxed, but doesn't say who, likewise most other history sites.

But for interesting Turkish assasinations, it's hard to beat the death of Mehmet Pasha, who was in exile in Berlin after one of Turkey's many post-WWI upheavals. He got schwacked out in the open by an Armenian expat, who openly admitted killing Mehmet, but justified it by noting that Mehmet had played a key role in the deaths of hundreds of thousand during a late phase of the Armenian Genocide in Turkey. A German court let him off scot-free. Ironies...

I cheated a bit, but my guess was they were taken from Kurdish separatists.

I don't believe that the 66 is a full auto. It lacks a operating rod from the gas trap to the lever. The lever appears to be standard.
